As I told coworkers yesterday, "There have always been gays in Boy Scouts."
As a matter of fact, bullies in my high school thought all Boy Scouts were gay.

Re: General LGBTQIA issues thread
The best part about this hateful little book is how it uses an appeal to nature to support its point, even though there are actually tons of animals that fuck around in rather unbiblical ways.
The family goes to the zoo and sees how all animal families consist of one male, one female and their offspring. I don't know which animals are featured in the book, but I suspect that she showed standard zoo animals, because she probably stupidly assumed that all animals behave like humans*. So high likelihood she showed animals like lions and monkeys which most definitely do not behave that way.
*Actually, humans would hardly be objectively described as exclusively heterosexual monogamous either so...

I like how they used an interracial couple as Michael's god fearing parents to show how progressive they are.
A deleted scene:
One day, while Jeff's dads, Chris and Pete, were volunteering with the PTA, Michael takes the opportunity to testify some of what his parents have been telling him.
"God says that to have a family both parents must be married."
"That's what some people believe, Michael," responds Chris. "Sadly, the government won't allow us to marry. Much like how the government would not have allowed your parents to marry fifty years ago."
"Really?" Michael was surprised. His mom and dad loved each other very much. He thought they were great parents. Why would anyone not want them to be a family?
"It took almost a hundred years of social reform before people realized how wrong that was," added Pete, Chris's partner.
"Why did it take so long?" asked Jeff.
"People are afraid of what they don't understand. It takes bravery to question those things that many take for granted. That is why we are so proud of you, Jeff." Pete gave his son a big hug.

SCOOP!
“Ex-gay” Christian group shuts down following bombshell apology - Salon.com
Quote:
Exodus International, the “ex-gay” Christian group with a mission to minister to a “world impacted by homosexuality,” has shut down after 37 years.
Following a Wednesday statement in which Exodus’ president Alan Chambers apologized for “years of undue suffering and judgment at the hands of the organization and the Church as a whole,” Chambers announced the group would close its doors late Wednesday night.
“Exodus is an institution in the conservative Christian world, but we’ve ceased to be a living, breathing organism,” Chambers said. “For quite some time we’ve been imprisoned in a worldview that’s neither honoring toward our fellow human beings, nor biblical”:
From a Judeo-Christian perspective, gay, straight or otherwise, we’re all prodigal sons and daughters. Exodus International is the prodigal’s older brother, trying to impose its will on God’s promises, and make judgments on who’s worthy of His Kingdom. God is calling us to be the Father — to welcome everyone, to love unhindered. For these reasons, the Board of Directors unanimously voted to close Exodus International and begin a separate ministry. This is a new season of ministry, to a new generation. Our goals are to reduce fear and come alongside churches to become safe, welcoming, and mutually transforming communities.

Re: General LGBTQIA issues thread
Let me guess, this change of heart is due to them not being cured of gayness. "Oh shit, I am still gay! God loves me anyway!"
That's as good a reason as any to stop hating, but it would have been better not to take 40 years to realize that.

Damn that video always puts me in the mood for watermelon.
So the original founders of Exodus hooked up with each other and quit years ago, and also apologized and started speaking against the org. Thrilled to know they finally shut their doors.

Andrew Sullivan referred to Chambers's apology as an "unconditional surrender in the culture wars."
Looks more like a retreat with intent to fight another day, in a less in-your-face way.

Seems more to me like, "My brand is damaged. I need to change it." I may be reading a bit too much of my brother's work, though.

Re: General LGBTQIA issues thread
Guido Barilla Apparently Doesn't Like Gay Money
Quote:
Guido Barilla, whose firm has almost half the Italian pasta market and a quarter of that in the US, told Italy’s La Zanzara radio show last night: “I would never do an advert with a homosexual family…if the gays don’t like it they can go an eat another brand.
“For us the concept of the sacred family remains one of the fundamental values of the company.”
He added: “Everyone has the right to do what they want without disturbing those around them”. But then the pasta magnate upped the ante by attacking gay adoption. “I have no respect for adoption by gay families because this concerns a person who is not able to choose," he said.
