Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
So yeah. We followed up the bloodwork with ultrasound. No cancer detected, but her liver is shrunken - probably cirrhosis. And no, I'm not one of those dumbfucks who give their pets alcohol, or any other human-favored poison.
She's stopped eating altogether, and even most of the water she drinks gets upchucked. And you can see pretty much her entire skeleton, which is particularly shocking for a pug.
I'm talking to the vet as soon as he gets in this morning. We may put her down this evening, or if we can keep her reasonably comfortable, within the next couple days.
I hate everything about this.

I'm sorry Sock I have done a blind consult with a vet on the facts of Ms. Chickenbunny's case, and he tells me that pugs are prone to vascular deformation that causes liver failure, for what it's worth. I'm glad she had a few good final weeks.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
I recently converted our guest room into a home office, on account of I'm working from home a lot more often than we are having house guests. Previously, puppies were not allowed in the guest room at all, ever, due to their tendencies to shed their hair everywhere, and to take a shit on the bed of people who piss them off. (Like strangers who come into their territory and take their humans' attention and go in the forbidden room.)
But since it's my office now, I decided they can be in here when I am in here, and Ripley is so cute and timid about it. She comes in all tail-tucked and sniffs around gingerly, and keeps looking at me to make sure it's okay. I brought one of her beds in to really drive the point home, and she came in and got in the bed for a second and then just laid on the floor next to me, I think because it's probably too hot to actually use the bed.
The point is, she's being so sweet and good and really careful about how she behaves with her new permissions and it's making me crazy what a GOOD GIRL she is. We'll see how long it lasts.

OMG! Earlier, when she was lying next to me, I was in a meeting so I had the door closed. Now that the door is open, she's lying in the hall just outside. She's so good, I can't even.

Which reminds me, has anyone posted Andrew Cotter's dog (sports) narration videos?
He's a BBC sports announcer. Since there's not a lot of tennis, golf or rugby going on he's narrating ... his dogs' breakfast.
And a few more:
And their Zoom meeting:

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Ripley passed away this morning. She had gotten old (not sure how old) and was slowing down a lot, but she still seemed happy and lovable and I figured she had either days or years left, who knows with these little dogs. She started having trouble breathing last night, and I was on the phone with the emergency vet early this morning when she laid down and decided she was done.
She was my special good girl. I miss her so much.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Ripley was a delightful dog who didn't care for toys or treats but only wanted our affection. She also loved breaking down blankets, she would worry a fucking blanket for just an inordinate amount of time before settling in.
JD brought Ripley home one day when we were living in Jefferson, Georgia. She saw her in the Kroger parking lot. I think she called me or texted me, but I don't remember the details. She was just the perfect little deer headed chihuahua, every bit like the taco bell dog.
Ripley hated me at first. I was working second shift and going to school. I would come home at midnight and climb into bed and Ripley would go apeshit and just bark. I couldn't wake JD up without Ripley snapping at me.
Then I spent more time at home as we started the watch business and I quit working at the store. Ripley and I bonded and that little dog would go on my errands with me when I went to take watches to the post office or I drove the store for sodas. Ripley road in my big loud truck, she loved, loved, loved rides in the truck.
Ripley didn't know tricks, but she would come when called and she hated to disappoint, so on those short truck rides, I wouldn't bother with a leash and she would just come back to me when called.
In Georgia, she was super territorial, and I was worried about the move here. Much like her daddy she adjusted to life in the city pretty well. Our neighbor's house here is closer than the end of our drive was in Georgia and Ripley would bark at passing cars.
I say that she didn't know tricks, but she had many strategies to get love and attention and she was an adorkable dog.
I will miss her until I die though I know the ache will lessen with time.
Death is inevitable fuckshit.
