Well, Summers would know an asshole if he met one, because he's been one his entire life. He's the guy who had to step down at Harvard in the wake of the controversy he stirred up when he said that math and science was just too hard for poor ladybrains, and offered up this opinion in a World Bank memo: "I think the economic logic behind dumping a load of toxic waste in the lowest wage country is impeccable and we should face up to that."
Also, as Deputy U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and head Clintonomicist, he demanded that Indonesia remove its food subsidies as a condition for receiving IMF aid, which Suharto did, touching off food riots that the IMF predicted ahead of time and still forced on Indonesia—riots that killed roughly 500-1000 people there.
The man is one of the most servile, pandering, amoral lackeys of neoliberal economics living today.

A federal judge in D.C. has ordered (pdf, 15 pages) the release of Tricky Dick Nixon's 1975 grand jury testimony plus three boxes of "associated materials" compiled by the Watergate prosecution team. This only gets two minutes love because the order is sure to be appealed, but it's p. goddamn great nonetheless.

A professional pet photographer volunteers to retake the pictures of the dogs at a shelter so they don't all look fat, crazy, mean or in jail. The results are spectacular. Watch this video.
OMG I've always thought this needed to happen. If I didn't suck at photography, I'd have been doing it myself.
I also follow this guy Fred, who works at a Toronto animal shelter and takes the most insanely brilliant pictures of the pound dogs there. He somehow makes them all look like these intimate character studies somehow. (Not all of the pictures on the blog are his, but you can tell which ones are.)
