Re: What's up with you?
My kindergarten aged child was suspended from school today because he kicked two kids.
WTF.
Now where was that home schooling thread again?

No, I am just beginning to think that school is not for my child. Or he isn't ready to be introduced to the other children.

That's a crap way for a school to handle it. What is he? Five? Too bloody authoritarian and over the top. Five year olds respond to logic.

I'm sure I did worse things when I was his age, they never suspended me (or any of the little assholes harassing me).

Re: What's up with you?
I lay down for an hour after posting that and let the meds work. My fever dropped 1 F which surprisingly makes a huge difference in how I feel. Still bad but not horrifically so. The body aches make me think the doctor missed this diagnosis. It's got to be the flu.

When I saw you on Sunday, Ymir, I noticed that you actually had some color to your cheeks, so I thought you must be coming down with something.

There's no way of knowing where I picked it up. Even if I did catch your bug, I knew the risks. Don't worry about it.

My temperature has been hovering around the upper nineties all afternoon. Hopefully the fever won't return.

The fever is gone. I still have some congestion, but I had that before getting the fever. It's worse in the mornings, as always.

Re: What's up with you?
I'm starting to get the beginning of the sickness as well, and have been for days. I am finding it hard to concentrate and do the kind of thinking necessary math and programming, and my schoolwork is suffering hugely because of it. But I'm too sick to care, so that's nice.
I also have an iPhone now, which I like.
Due to my inability to be in two places at one time, I am likely going to have to leave my job if I want to continue to go to school full time. I am of several minds about that. I don't like the work I do or the people that I work with, but I do like receiving a paycheck. I would like to be able to concentrate just on school without worrying about work, but I would also like to be able to pay my bills. So it's a trade-off I guess.
I have a couple of leads on other part-time work with more flexible hours but failing that I am seriously considering going back in the service, at least on a part-time basis. I would really rather put that off until after graduation though. We'll see.

By back in the service do you mean the Air Force? Wouldn't that put you at risk of getting posted away from Georgia? And what do you have to give them if they let you stay at uni?

Re: What's up with you?
I was looking at episodes of QI (Stephen Fry's humorous quiz show on BBC), when I can across a delightful surprise just for me.
Now, it's delightful because I colored that image of a tapeworm in the background for Dennis Kunkel, and I find it fun that a nobody like me can produce stuff that goes on national television and is seen by so many. It's a surprise because I don't go looking for this stuff, I just come across it looking for something else.
Maybe this goes in the nostalgia thread, because seeing these images pop up unexpectedly can bring back the memory of cleaning, masking and coloring the image. Just that it's not evocative of any emotional recall, just current surprise and delight.
I suppose a lot of folks here don't think much about who makes the graphics they see everyday (though I'm certain a few of you are acutely aware), but I often stop and take a minute to think of the many adults in the world that are still drawing ducks in galoshes for spring time decorations in drug stores, painting reindeer and elves for christmas time at a toy store, and so on. The many nobodies that contribute to our satisfaction and pleasure at our surroundings (or for Ymir, perhaps, horror and disgust) are always out there; painting puppy dogs and tapeworms, ladybugs and clowns.

Re: What's up with you?
I believe that "in the service" is a euphemism for prostitution. I could be wrong about that.
For that matter, I am pretty certain that "Air Force" is a common euphemism for blow job.
