Additional groups whose jobs are going offshore:

Network Operations --- Kuala Lampur
Mainframe Operations --- Panama

Those 28 or so additional positions being retained are not necessarily developers, but more likely project managers and project leads. People to remain here in Portland but to oversee and direct the various remote groups. It's petty I know but I do take some pleasure in knowing that many if not all the contract developers we have here on H-1B visas will be losing their jobs as well.

Actually I just want the whole thing to be over with. It's going to be hard to have any motivation for the next 5 months.

The worst thing is that it was supposed to be over. He had a lung removed, he'd done the chemo and radio, he quit smoking etc. He was getting better then he wasn't. It's really unfair.

I'm sorry to hear about that, Zehava. Pretty hard to work at a job going away. One of my friends had to "turn out the lights" at a former Portland trucking company. He worked in accounting.

I am glad that you get to tell your uncle how much he meant to you, Deadlokd.

Sorry Deadlokd. Same thing happened to a friend of mine's father. Lung cancer, chemo and all. Then they found brain tumors shortly after. He was scanned, as lung cancer tends to head for the brain. They did grow that fast. :sad:

Damn. Although it was a completely different condition, the same thing happened with my grandfather last year -- recovering nicely from one life-endangering illness, then out of the blue felled by something else. I'm so sorry.
