Default $35 to see a movie per day

In Boston and Denver, AMC Theaters is test marketing a movie subscription service that would charge $35 per month for a movie per day subscription, $45 for premium theaters (IMAX and the like). The catch, you can't see the same movie more than once, and it doesn't cover concessions. And, I bet you can't use it for two people to see 15 movies per month either.

Would you subscribe?

I might. It would have saved us money, even back in 1978-1980 when theater tickets were $3.25. We lived in Woodward, Oklahoma, where there was nothing to do except bowling and bars and two movie theaters and a drive-in. We didn't hang out in bars and we didn't have cable tv, so we went to just about every movie that came to town, three per week most of the year, five per week when the drive-in theater was open. We saw a lot of movies, a lot of bad movies, some really bad.

Oh.

I seriously thought they were paying people to see and review their movies and I was thinking 'It's not worth it'.

So no. No, I wouldn't pay that.

How often do you watch movies, though. I know for a fact that for a frequent movie goer, this is an excellent deal. There was a time when my younger sister (who I believe is still an avid moviegoer) would see a good 5-7 movies a month.

If she still watches movies at that level of frequency, this subscription would be ideal for her as it would save a lot of money. In any case, when you consider the convenience charge imposed by Fandango if you order tickets online, this is an economical option on that alone. It depends on the details, though.

In my late tens or early twenties this would have been a great deal for me.

That would be a reason to go more. I would if it was offered in my town, I'd at least try it out. In the Summer it would be great during all the action/hero flicks.

I have been trying to go out to bowl at least once a week... getting better at it. Drinking white russians, too. I'm the dude now, so that's what you call me; or his dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Dudarino if you're not into that whole brevity-thing.

I'd be more likely to do it if the movie theaters weren't full of talking kids and they mopped the floor a couple of times a year.

We use the new recliner theater every once and a while because it's more expensive and it keeps out a lot of the rif-raff.

But with four of us, watching 2 or 3 movies a month on our big ass TV in the basement justifies our cable bill. We normally watch more than that. If the movie's bad I can drink a little more at home. The recliner theater serves alcohol, but you have to go get it (missing some of the movie) and eventually drive home. I can see the screen from the bar downstairs.
