Re: Miscellany
Irish people are coming more to terms with the membership of the new Dail.
Enda Kenny is now officially the new Taoseach (PM).
Ming the Merciless did make it as TD from Roscommon (Independent).
That's actually from an older campaign, he looks a little more normal now. This from last month.
Dress standards in the chamber seem to be a bit looser now.
Mick Wallace (Wexford, Independent)
I think that's Dick Barrett (Dun Laoighre, United Left Alliance) next to him, wearing jeans.
Not that the suits mean anything per se, the last shower in charge all wore suits, but we do wonder how much credibility such characters gives to all those countries that just loaned Ireland wads of cash a couple of months ago.

Re: Miscellany
The chain on my bike came off once when I was going downhill. It was one of those bikes that brake when you pedal backwards, so I had no brakes. I was going at 35/40 km/h and all I could do was steer, zigzag between moving cars from all directions. This is much scarier than that was though.

Re: Miscellany
The New York Times announced that Ms Enda Kenny would be forming her cabinet today.
Easy mistake to make, I guess.

that happened to me once when i was in jr high....
headed down our very steep hill into a cross street
with pretty heavy traffic flow
all i could do was drag my feet, which, as it was
a hot texas summer day, were bare.... and head
for the curb...
it still makes me sick to think about it
so thanks for reminding me

Re: Miscellany
Just read that an escaped prisoner has been seen in my neighborhood--like the next block over and stuff--and apparently living in the Medical Center for the past couple of days. Maybe that homeless guy I saw talking to himself and picking out a nice piece of rebar for his backpack yesterday was smarter than I was.
Note these are the miscellaneous details I will not be sharing with my mother.

Does this mean that (s)he has been apprehended or is (s)he still at large?

Re: Miscellany
Well something bad obviously. I mean think of the weight of a piece of rebar. You aren't just going to carry that around unless there's some major bad shit going down.

He's still at large. They keep seeing him on security footage and maybe someone spotted him today in one of the buildings. Also, the truck he stole for his escape was discovered a block away. The Medical Center is many blocks of hospitals, medical offices, med schools, etc., so I'm sure there are many great places to hide. Plus, apparently he cut himself up on the razor wire while he escaped, which is why they think he is in TMC.
I probably won't be walking around outside very much by myself until he is caught. The prisoner is serving a sentence for stabbing a police officer in the neck who was apprehending him from an escape from a juvenile facility.
ETA: Oh, and the homeless man was just one of those--Oookkkkaaaay, I am glad you are down there on the bayou bank and I am on the bridge--moments. There are a lot of homeless people here, but I don't usually feel overly concerned about my safety when I see them. There is a new camp under the bridge near our apartments, because we think the abandoned shipping container on the empty lot across the street where they were likely living was moved. It's just as likely the rebar-y thing was for a tent pole as for beating people.
The not walking around is definitely more linked to the escapee than to the homeless people, fwiw.

He stabbed a cop in the neck and he's still alive? Texas is getting soft.
(Please don't be offended by my flippancy. Stay safe!)
