Default Which Monk theme song do you like best?

I prefer the original by Jeff Beal because it is light and comical, setting the scene for a comedy about a tragically flawed detective.

The new theme is too chaotic and heavy... too serious and reflects Monk's dysfunction and delusion. The show needs a tone lightener especially at the end. It tells the viewer's emotions that this was all in good fun.

My wife is a psych nurse and the show is her favorite, especially the shrink sessions. She actually sees patients like Adrian. :D but that's another story.

I agree with you LionsDen. I was annoyed when I heard the new song in the second season.

I can appreciate Monk's eccentricities because alot of them are exaggerated versions of hang ups that I have myself. Plus I think Tony Shalhoub is cute.

:yeahthat:
I've got all three of the new season's shows recorded on this computer and all of them were shown here with the original theme song. It sounds like Randy Newman to me, lyrics of It's a Jungle Out There.

The montage of scenes to go with the credits and theme song is definitely new this season. :unplane: I know 'cuz it includes the silly scene where Monk is running next to one of my jets from Monk and the Astronaut last season.

Do you think they show different opening themes in different areas of the country?

I wonder. I am sure that one of the shows this season openned with the new theme and ended with the Jeff Beal original... the laid back guitar melody.

Hey, in the second season they ended one show with a subtle joke about promising that if he ever makes a hit tv show, Monk must promise never to change theme songs the second season! :yup: Guess they got a lot of complaints.
