Some criminals, who would not have obeyed gun control laws anyway, get shot by heroic patriots with guns before they can go on a violent gun rampage in a heart-warming success story of free gun ownership.

Okay...The birdbrained refuge standoff ringleaders have been arrested.

FBI and state police made the arrest on a state highway as the resisters were on their way to a meeting in John Day. Gunfire was exchanged and one of the resisters is reported dead.

ETA: Cliven Bundy has proclaimed Finicum 'a martyr for the cause'.

In other news, Jon Ritzheimer evidently scarpered before the law sprung the trap on him in Arizona. One wonders whether the bag of dicks and the 55 gallon drum of personal lubricant disappeared with him.

There was this story a few days ago about a fireman/medic attending a man's home in Arkansas in response to a call that someone was suffering a seizure. The fireman was then shot dead by one of the home's occupants.

The story seems a little unclear to me, but the best I can understand it is that the seizure sufferer's wife made the call. The volunteer fireman was off duty and out of uniform but heard the call on the radio and as he was in the neighbourhood volunteered to attend. The seizure sufferer was recovering from the seizure as the fireman entered - he didn't know his wife had made the call and seeing what he assumed to be an intruder, he did the American thing - grabbed his gun and killed the guy.

I might have misunderstood what happened - my apologies in advance if this turns out to be the case.

Evidently, law enforcement personnel have moved in on the four holdouts at the Malheur refuge.

I've heard nothing other than that peace officers moved in with armored vehicles, en masse.

As I hear it, there was a promise Wednesday night that the peckerwoods would surrender to peace officers at 8 am.

It is now 9:30 am and there is no final report out.

Oh, wait. Daddy Cliven Bundy was arrested in Oregon, presumably on his way to the refuge, and is now being held at the federal courthouse in Portland.

It's a fambly reunion!

But...I think it may have interfered with the four peckerwoods' plans to grandstand at their surrender. Hence, the hangup. Pouty time.

If I thought that the FBI were clever enough to do this, I might suspect that they held the Bundy boys with the hopes of getting Craven... I mean... Cliven Bundy away from his ranch so they can arrest him without his brigade of armed right-wing nutjobs present.

As it is, I suspect they just seized the opportunity. I'll give them credit for that, at least.

Oh...What caught my attention was the relative lack of any discouraging messages from the authorities after the peckerwoods at the refuge sent out their plea for other nutjobs to join them.
