Lol, I only just noticed that they got the Dutch flag on Wilders' tie upside down.

Canada has a lot of 'little man syndrome'. Some of it's irrational, some of it's due to the fact that a minor domestic policy change in the USA can alter Canada's entire economy.

I clearly need that because the only name I recognised was Sally Ride, although on reading up* I recall Margaret Hamilton's presidential medal, the release of Hidden Figures, and something about the Hubble Telescope which must have mentioned Nancy Roman.
* For your benefit: Margaret Hamilton (scientist) - Katherine Johnson - Sally Ride - Nancy Roman - Mae Jemison
Mae Jemison's been in Star Trek!

Heavy clashes broke out between Kurdish forces on Friday morning after 500 Syrian Kurdish Rojava Peshmergas entered the Yezidi town of Khanasor, which is dominated by the PKK-affiliated Sinjar Resistance Units (YBS).
Local Yezidis told ARA News that both groups should fight ISIS, and not each other.

This is in Iraq, btw. Syrian Kurds of an anti-PKK militia who aren't allowed back into Syria by the YPG militia.

Re: News Miscellany
The idea that children don't see colour of skin is comprehensively DESTROYED by the following anecdotal single data point:
When Little Miss JoeP was at pre-school in Johannesburg, she once asked her mother "Why is Mandla's daddy brown?"
It's only other kids' colours they don't see.

Syrian army capture Aleppo water station | SBS News
Quote:
They recaptured the al-Khafsa area on the western bank of the Euphrates River, where the water treatment and pumping plants are located, after the jihadist group withdrew.
A Syrian military source had said earlier on Tuesday that the army had advanced to areas "very close" to both.
Aleppo's main water supply has been cut off for nearly two months, and the city's residents now rely mainly on ground wells or water purchased from private vendors.

Re: News Miscellany
I just got my candidate list for the elections for the Second Chamber of Parliament, which is like the House of Commons in the UK. There's 26 parties on it
Many of those parties have no seats right now, some have never participated in any election before, but that doesn't stop them from having a list of dozens of candidates. It's a strange phenomenon.
Some have celebrities like writers or actors on those lists, like the Party for the Animals and the new Artikel1 which is named after the article in the Dutch constitution wich bans discrimination.
I've narrowed it down to about 3 or 4 possible parties, but I am undecided. Een zwevende kiezer in Dutch, zweven means to float in the air. Not sure where you will land in election terms.

At first I thought you meant this was the platform of one of the parties.
And I was all, oh cool, the Netherlands has yogic flying party too.

They're not on the list this time, but they have been before.

Good grief - the polls predict Wilders to end up as the second biggest party?
FFS. Lets just open up the dikes and let whatever is left of the Netherlands join Germany and Belgium.

Re: News Miscellany
wow I just read the PVV political program. This does not take long. It is about 300 words long. Among other gems, it includes a ban on the qu'ran, enforced closure of all mosques, and the preventive incarceration of Muslim radicals.
Also, no more money for international aid. Or windmills. Or art. Or "innovation". And other unspecified stuff.
Oh hey! Also Nexit.
How the hell is anyone who can read fooled by this shit?

Re: News Miscellany
I have the sneaking suspicion that most prospective PVV voters don't bother with this "reading" thing. After all, that's what the left-wing elite would want them to do.
