I had to get a princess costume for running in at the last minute (for this thing) and so I went to the store-boughten costumes store and omg they suuuuuck. I came out with Supergirl and Minnie Mouse, neither of whom is a princess (AFAIK), but it's just going to have to be close e-damn-nough! It's supposed to be 80 fucking degrees on Sunday.

article excerpt
Alas, some typos are more forgivable than others, even in comment threads.

The accidental typing of hte or teh for the, for example, will go unremarked by all but the most mean-spirited nit-picking troll. It's for its, on the other hand, elicits a visceral reaction in some readers. They can’t help it. No matter how deep or serious a discussion, a misplaced it's or its will almost certainly bring it to a grinding halt.

Perhaps the point of the movie isn't that Indiana Jones averted the catastrophe of the Nazis getting the Ark.

The characters in the movie don't know that this is what will happen to the Nazis. It is not a plot hole for them to do all in their power to prevent the Nazis from getting the Ark.

They do, you know, fail at that. It is a valid point if you're saying that the movie doesn't really show Indiana Jones as saving the day.

Oh God. I have a thing tonight that involves a whole lot of talking to people for hours and a few minutes of actual public speaking and I am so over it. I want to barricade myself on the couch in a pillow fort, turn out the lights, turn off the phone, and hide.

This is me right now:

Four years ago, a booklet titled “The Way to Happiness” found its way into a number of Lebanese public schools. Inside, the booklet lists 21 moral precepts that range from discouraging promiscuity to encouraging brushing one's teeth.

In bold print, the cover declares: “A book for all Lebanese.” A pathway composed of the Lebanese flag leads to a sparkling sun rising between luscious green hills. On the back, in fine print, is the author’s name: L. Ron Hubbard, the American science-fiction writer and founder of the controversial Church of Scientology.

Larry Flynt Does Not Want His Shooter Executed - ABC News

This guy does stuff I like a lot.

“As I see it,” Flynt wrote in his essay, “the sole motivating factor behind the death penalty is vengeance, not justice, and I firmly believe that a government that forbids killing among its citizens should not be in the business of killing people itself.”

Default Re: Miscellany

A little boy goes to his dad and ask, "What is politics?" Dad says, "Well, son, let me try to explain it this way: I'm the breadwinner of the family, so let's call me Capitalism. Your Mom, she's the administrator of the money, so we'll call her the Government. We're here to take care of your needs, so we'll call you the People. The nanny, we'll consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we'll call him the Future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense." So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said.

Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parents' room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed.

The next morning, the little boy says to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now." The father says, "Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about." The little boy replies, "Well, while Capitalism is screwing the Working Class, the Government is sound asleep, the People are being ignored and the Future is in Deep Shit."
