It has been fun watching video of the House of Commons, if only because it's unruly but in a generally sane and orderly manner compared to Republican tantrum politics. I think if the MPs started shooting themselves the speaker would just role out a plastic tarp, "Order! Gun testing will be done on designated tarps only, well now go on, you wanted to be next, hurry up then!"

But that doesn't really represent the dilemma that May's in. It's really about trying to achieve something that will get majority support between two camps that believe contradictory things. It's impossible to find a compromise that both sides will like.

Well, it's really more like one camp that believes contradictory things and thus will never be satisfied, and the other camp believing generally sensible things, but being mostly not her supporters and thus she doesn't want to give it to them/it will piss off her own supporters.

The Leave campaign promised them a unicorn pegasus, and they're not going to be satisfied with an old nag with a taped-on horn, because even if they buy the horn, she's still never going to get it to fly. But May refuses to simply tell them that unicorn pegasuses aren't real. And they'll also be pissed if the UK just sticks with the zebra* they've got already, because while it's better than the alternative, it's also uncomfortably foreign.
