Don't Freak Out!
In an attempt to streamline the forum before upgrading, we've disabled some of the lesser used hacks already, and once I've posted this, we'll be disabling the quote generator too.
It's a horrible piece of code, basically, and may be one of the reasons we've had so many problems as of late. Of course we're keeping all the data, but until there's a fresh quote gen hack written -- either by the nice people at vb.org or by vm and an elite cadre of local programmers -- we will be quoteless.
Other hacks we've disabled include the spellchecker, Google maps, the live feed, the welcome headers and some other small ones here and there. The maps and live feed we will install again when there's a non-buggy 3.8 version, but they're down for the count right now.
The plan is to do the actual upgrade tomorrow and bug-kill on Sunday. If you encounter anything weird today, please post about it here.
Apologies for any inconvenience this causes (not to mention the trauma of quote loss). Our priority right now is clearing out old hack debris and getting the forum in tip-top shape.

Use Firefox which has a spell checker and you'll be all set with out the  's spell checker.

Fucking hell, I can't find a spellchecker on firefox either, forced to use "Webster's New World Speller Divider" a paperback from 1971!!!!

Firefox has a built in spellchecker. I'm using version 3 but I believe that 2 might have as well.
Tools menu  Options Advanced
Check the box that says "Check my spelling as I type"
