Default Buffman

I see from the IIDB that Buffman passed away a few days ago. He was a sonofabitch for digging up U.S. church/state history online, and his comments were usually pretty on the money too.

There's a sticky thread here.

He had quite a life, from the sounds of it. He'll be missed.

Oh no... He was brilliant. I particularly recall his posts refuting David Barton's claims. I didn't even realize he was ill. What a loss. :(

Yes he certainly was the Bartonkiller, not to mention the Radorthkiller, etc., etc. Hopefully someone can archive some of that stuff. He could have his own CSS library over there.

God dammit. That man knew more about U.S. church-state history than the next fifty most knowledgeable people combined (and yes, that includes professional scholars). Watching him verbally evicerate accomodationists was one of the great joys of my time at IIDB. He was a first-rate human being as well.

What a loss. I was very impressed by his mind and his manner. Now I wish I'd said as much to him instead of just lurking and nodding at his posts.

His manner was simply flawless. He was never rude or even brusque in any way, even on the most contentious of topics with the most contentious of people.

Yep. :( Every time I'm discussing Barton and the whole "America was built as a Christian nation" somewhere, I inevitably link to some of his posts. I knew he was older, but I didn't realize he was 70. He'll be missed.

Yes, as I commented there, he was among my very favorite posters to read on any forum.

Here's the obit snipped from the II thread (for those who can't/won't go there):
Quote:
Glen Peter Goffin, 70, of Fruitland Park died Friday, November 25, 2005.
Mr. Goffin was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Born in
Portland, Maine, he moved to Florida from Oslo, Norway in 1979. He was a
heavily decorated Air Force veteran during the Korean Conflict and the
Vietnam War. Survivors include his son, David P. (Mary Jane) Goffin II of
Dublin PA; daughter-in-law, Tone Goffin of Oslo, Norway; grandchildren:
David Goffin of Dublin, PA, Katinka Goffin and Kassandra Goffin, both of
Oslo, Norway. He was predeceased by a son, Keith Goffin. A private
internment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in
Arlington, VA. Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg FL
We will miss you, Buffman.

(damnit, isn't there a saluting smilie? and not the 'yessir' one)
