Several senior U.S. officials said the administration is eyeing a soon-to-be-shuttered state maximum security prison in Michigan and the military penitentiary at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., as possible locations for a heavily guarded site to hold the 229 suspected al-Qaida, Taliban and foreign fighters now jailed at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba.

My Way News - AP sources: Military-civilian terror prison eyed
This wouldn't be a bad thing for the community in Michigan that is reliant on the prison as a major source of income. Chances are, though, that Leavenworth would be more suited.
I don't buy that nonsense flapped about by the Republicans about how they'd be a danger to us all!!!111!!! Terrorists in the US, OMG!!1111!!!! But I do wonder what the potential ramifications are for moving the prisoners to the US. I'm bothered by this notion of locking up enemy combatants. It seems to be a way to imprison people without the protections of due process or the protections due to prisoners of war. It's yet another damned messy legacy left by Bush Co.
Will this proposal work? If not, what are other potential solutions?
