I don't know, does it really matter? I personally think there are too many people in the world, although I'm not sure what it has to do with anyone's 2012 predictions? ... unless of course we run out of resources or, the planet gets nasty all of a sudden and decides to fight back.
Either that or it was something that I did.

There will be a viscacha uprising, certainly. But it won't be the cause of the end of the world - it will be their attempt to prevent the end of the world - and humanity's last hope, not that many of us will realise, let alone do anything to help.

There is still some debate about this, because it has a lot to do with the differences between colloquial terms and scientific names, but in a monophyletic group (the group that contains all descendants of the closest common ancestor), younger branches of the group don't stop being what their ancestors were. This would mean that snakes are still a sub-set of lizards, and apes are still a sub-set of monkeys. Including us, of course.
