Default Bill Buckley on the Valerie Plame Affair

William F. Buckley Jr., a former deep cover CIA man himself and one of the founders of modern conservatism, says that, although the outing of his service in Mexico 15 year after the fact damaged "no one except for the ones put off by my deception", this is a serious matter. "In the swirl of the Libby affair, one loses sight of the real offense, and it becomes almost inapprehensible what it is that Cheney/Libby/Rove got themselves into. But the sacredness of the law against betraying a clandestine soldier of the republic cannot be slighted."

From the columnBut even if she was safe in Washington when the identity of her employer was given out, it does not mean that her outing was without consequence. We do not know what dealings she might have been engaging in which are now interrupted or even made impossible. We do not know whether the countries in which she worked before 1997 could accost her, if she were to visit any of them, confronting her with signed papers that gave untruthful reasons for her previous stay — that she was there only as tourist, or working for a fictitious U.S. company.

So much for the no harm, no foul, no danger to national security theory.

The one thing we do know, it was the CIA that went to the Justice Department about it. Apparently someone over there thinks there was harm and foul. Might not have been Porter Goss, but someone.

Also any agents she was running could be compromised.

And let's not lose sight of why she was outed: to retaliate against her husband for telling the truth.

also, if what I am reading in the media is correct (and never assume that it is), they also "outed" the fake company that she supposed worked for. Apparently other agents also worked for this front company, and thus, the damage goes beyond just one agent.

Naaah ... she was sitting on her butt in Langely. Someone will take over her stuff. And she can't visit Oogaboogaland anymore? Gosh, someone should get 30 years for that for sure!

Your idiocy knows no bounds. That isn't what Scooter was indicted for.

Don't you understand that since she was outed, her stuff can no longer be used? The countries involved would know that the companies she was working for were fronts, and many people associated with her will no longer be trusted (and might even be punished), whether they knew they were associating with/working for a spy or not.

How exactly do you think someone can just take over where she left off?

Oogaboogaland. Nice, asswipe. Shouldn't you be finding a way to blame Clinton for this administration's dismal failures and indictments present and future?

Yeah, if I am not mistaken, grand juries tend not to like people lying to them, especially to cover up theirs or their bosses involvement in treasonous violations of the Espionage Act.
