Default Ice cream maker recipes

My parents recently acquired an ice cream maker (for $30 on sale!) and so I want ice cream recipes.

Also I need to figure out, definitively, what is supposed to go into gelato. Because recipes online are very varied. I'm certain that there should be more milk than cream, as it has a lower fat content than American ice cream, but I'm not sure whether it should have no cream, or a little cream, egg yolks or no eggs, etc. I've even seen sorbet labeled as gelato online, but I know that's wrong.

The recipe book my parents bought has milk and egg yolks, so I'm inclined to trust that.

So far we've made

vanilla ice cream, which was meh, nothing special (may have been the vanilla extract's fault)
blueberry-lemon-sour cream ice cream, which was alright
chocolate orange, which was just the chocolate recipe that came with the machine but with orange extract and zest, which was delicious
and
strawberry, which was good, but not better than what's available at the store. But strawberries aren't in season, so that's probably why.

Another idea I had was honeydew with coconut milk, but that would require honeydews to be in season.
