Default You'd think they'd run the other way.

According to The Hill, Republican lawmakers are holding a fundraiser for Republican Tom DeLay's fundraisers Jim Ellis and John Colyandro, who have been indicted on money-laundering charges. The event is a golf tournament being held at a Springfield, Virginia country club this Wednesday. The funds raised will go into a defense fund for these two indictees. Current leading donors to their defense fund include Majority Whip Roy Blount of Missouri ($10,000) and Cheif Deputy Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia.

What these two are charged with is funnelling $190,000 in corporate donations to seven Republican candidates for Texas state legislature. Texas state law prohibits corporate donations to state political candidates. They recently were refused an appeal based on the law being constitutionally vague.

In an unrelated case, the PAC these two worked for was found to have violated state election law in failing to report over $650,000 in corporate donations, including at least one from the company I work for. Yet, the Republicans in charge in D.C. are doing the Tammy Wynette thing "Stand By Your Man." I only hope DeLay and his antics take the whole lot of them down with him.
