Seems like a great way to get shot by a wannabe hero with a gun.
Luckily no one's just wandering around looking or a reason to shoot at stuff in Texas and the Cops would never open fire into a truck before questioning the occupants.

Re: Return to Gender 101
You know, maybe all those people who say I am bad and should feel bad for being antisocial should just suck my dick. Gawd I hate people. Especially people like this
Quote:
We first tried to figure out why the rule changed from “logo merchandise from your organization and other items made exclusively for and by your organization” to “logo merchandise only,” but Cody did not acknowledge that the rule had ever allowed for non-logo merch. Then we wondered how we’d been able to sell everything in the past but not now, but Cody(/Dennis) simply insisted we were flouting the rules. When we kept asking questions, he told us, “If you don’t like it, I can call my boss, and believe me, you do not want that to happen.”
We were confused. Was his boss a vampire? Cthulhu? We asked him if he was threatening us and if so, could he explain what the actual threat entailed. He told us we had been warned twice already by convention staff that our merchandise was in violation of the rules. We said that did not happen and as I tried to tell him about our positive interactions with his staff, he talked over me and insisted we were lying about having been warned. I told him that it didn’t even matter because I was going to pack up the table no matter what, but at this point all I wanted was for him to stop treating us like garbage and attempting to intimidate us.
....
I have essentially paid hundreds of dollars to perform for free for a for-profit organization, whose representative berated me.

Re: Return to Gender 101
Guh, I saw that this morning, and spent a good amount of time reading menz emoting about the many extreme boo boos it did to their feelings when that lady was so mean that she didn't go personally door to door and gently explain sexism to all the men in the world before saying such hurtful things and inflicting such great potential damage to the poor innocent sexists' self-esteems.
Also, I have a helpful guideline to share. If your alleged joke is so easily recognizable that it can be conveyed with a single word, such as "kitchen" or "sandwich" in context of any situation involving female people and technology, it is not actually a joke. It is just plain old stupid boring bigotry, and not only do you need to STFU, but you need to stop even fucking thinking it, you regressive little turd. And it's not just not a joke because it's offensive and bigoted, it's not a joke because it is really stupid, really old, and not funny.
And if you are a high school programming teacher, you should have your ears very finely tuned for those words and you should address them immediately and definitively by shutting that shit the fuck down the very first time it comes up.

Re: Return to Gender 101
I'm slowly but steadily considering responding to future offended to their soft squishy core, Real Menz, in baby talk. I know it will just make them fly off the handle with threats of punching things harder (So you say you puched the computer and Office still thinks you can't spell... have you tried threatening it with rape? - Real Menz Tech support). But it would make me feel better, and as a white male, isn't that what the world is really about?
There needs to be a term for guys who think anything outside their current knowledge is fake and PC whining. Just last night I watched a conversation where a group of privileged assholes just couldn't understand how anyone in their right mind thought Miley was Appropriating from Black culture. When an activist asked if they had tried google yet, they flew off the looney handle (clearly the answer was no, and how dare you question their 100% accurate speculation, now go make a sammich, the Real Menz are talking.)

I suspect it would be totally different, yeah.
If it were a programming class full of girls, even if they did tease him, it still wouldn't be in the context of a field where sexism against boys is common.
If it were in a traditionally female dominated field, I dunno, but from the comments I saw from men who took Home Ec and Chorus and other classes that were mostly girls when they were in school, none reported being picked on by the girls in the class, but several said they were picked on by other boys, for doing 'girl stuff.'

Re: Return to Gender 101
In Junior High I took Home Ec with a number of girls, I don't remember any of them telling me to shut up and change their oil (or equivalent).
In High school I effectively TAed a programing class (Ironically Visual Basic, which was only slightly more relevant then) with a decent number of girls compared to the industry, the only seriously sexist remark I remember earned the guy a trip outside into the rain (although we had a female teacher).
Teachers need to realize that there seemed to be so many stupid reasons you could get sent to see the principal that any lack of punishment was a clear sign of acceptable behavior.

Re: Return to Gender 101
One thing that is important to know is that the percentage of women in computing has been declining since its peak in the mid 80s, so things have actually been getting worse since when we olds started out.
Hell, my mom was a programmer in the late 50s/early 60s, back when it was a lady job.
Women have been working in computing since computing has existed, so to see the numbers declining so rapidly, even as women entered the workforce in larger numbers, points to something being very wrong.

Aha! I think you fell into the gender crap. Trap. Forget it, you know exactly what I mean.
I've seen men all sweaty, horny and hoarse become neanderthals in Ec Homo Chores. Ecuadorean home courses in a home consisting of only girls. They couldn't feel their being picked on by knife-throwing, shit-eating pimps showing their empty-skulled blonde bimbo bitches like tit porn. Bemoan the groan of the testosterone bone. You know that chromosome. Don't waste my sperm, you stupid cunt!
Grunt.

What an anti-gay day that was. The gay fool that wanted to escape the Soviet communist terror could have waited for a day, a week, a month, but running into the neutral zone which had anti-personnel mines, anti-tank mines, and a shitload of other explosive devices (like, let's say, oh way, nuclear anti-gay warheads) on either side, is exceptionally and incredibly fucking stupid.

This is part of why being gay makes you a better person, sort of. You're not encouraged to treat your sexual attractions the way straight guys are. Cuz my initial reaction is "Some significant portion of straight guys think this is funny? It's just stupid."
I'm like imagining if it were dickstare instead, would it be funny? And... no.
Ok, actually that might be funny. Like presenting that to a room full of straight guys who aren't interested in a gay porn app demonstration. But that context is why it would be funny.

While the traditional gender roles for women have been broken down rather a lot in the United States, the roles for men have remained largely intact with a great deal of derision still be heaped on men for showing emotions, being stay at home fathers, liking things other than sports, and so forth. My first reaction was: "Does any adult think that sort of thing is actually funny?" I mean, it's the sort of thing a 12-year-old might find amusing -- you know when you're just beginning to feel the hormonal rush of adolescence and suddenly girls are kind of ... interesting ... but you have no real idea why. So, suddenly, words like "boobies" and "tits" seem utterly scandalous and therefore absolutely hilarious, but you have no real idea why.
But most boys grow out of that phase pretty quickly, or at least, that was my impression.
So anyway, my first thoughts were along the lines of: "I understand that it's a joke, but it's completely adolescent, and I honestly don't understand why anyone over the age of -- say, 16 -- would find it funny."
Then the one guy raised a very legitimate point, and was immediately ridiculed for it, and that ticked me off. If we teach young males that it's perfectly okay to objectify women, is it really so unlikely that some of them will then leap to the conclusion that it's therefore okay to rape them? After all, no one worries about the feelings of a mere object.
No, there's no direct line from "Titstare" to rape. But is it really so difficult to understand that it's a bad idea to teach guys that objectification of women is perfectly okay?
