That is not exactly true: rather than preserve it, you made some changes. You feel they do not alter anything fundamental, but opinions on that are divided. In fact, the majority of people who are aware of the text disagree.
Of the two people claiming stewardship, ChuckF has not done anything that could jeopardize the integrity of the text as the author wrote it. You have shown no such restraint, and have freely altered it without differentiating clearly between your alteration and the original text. As a result, when we read your text, we have no way of telling what the author actually wrote, and what has been changed, bowdlerized, redacted, or even pasted in wholesale!
You assure us it all reflects what he intended. But how can we trust your judgement? Let us look at some examples of your judgement in action:
You did not even realize it would be important to distinguish your additions from the authors words. You mention that "some examples have been added", but apart from that there is no mention that the text has in fact been redacted, and there is no way for us to work out what words are yours and what are not. That is a clear error of judgement right there: this is not some book of recipes for really tasty spaghetti and meatballs we are talking about here, but Important Knowledge that can Save the World!
You have struggled multiple times to explain your book's position on sight, resorting to outlandish gibberish like you did here:

Now does that sound like someone who knows what they are talking about?
Then of course you seemed to be under the impression that the Internet had a set of editors that made sure all information on it was correct and trustworthy, which gave us the immemorial phrase "internet checkers":
Freethought Forum - View Single Post - A revolution in thought

So this is not an accurate definition? Aren't there internet checkers who make sure these definitions are correct, or remove them altogether if they are no longer used? My goodness, how else can we know for sure of anything? We would be spending an enormous amount of time checking up on the honesty and integrity of every person we ever meet. I'm not willing to do that. I have to trust some sources and take my chances.
|
This is not exactly something that inspires confidence in your judgement, now is it?
How can we trust your book at all, knowing what we know about how it was altered, and knowing what we know about the person who altered it?
Better to look at the text published in the authors lifetime. At least we know THAT was actually preserved, not altered according to your own lights.

Your blameful Corruptions are well-known here, and we lament that you practice your resentful Corruption on the Author's words when he is unable to defend himself, without even giving him a fair trial. You relegate the Authentic Text to a closet, forgotten, until it occurs to you that you might be able to hawk it for a few quick bucks. Your Corrupted Text is like a cancer on the Authentic Text.
However, peacegirl, this is where I come in.
peacegirl, I am the True Steward of the Authentic Text, just as 3 is to 6 as 4 is to 8. We reject your Corrupted Text. We shall interpret the Authentic Text as written by the Author and published in his lifetime, and we shall do so without blame from you.
I do not seek to market the Authentic Text for my own profit! No, I seek only to investigate it as the Author so desired, and, through proper exegesis, to cut away the malignancy of your Corruption.
We do not blame you for your blameful hawking of your $41.00 Corrupted Text, though this is a hurt to the Corrupted Text, because we allow for the source.
|
You continue to use me as the brunt of jokes. This discovery is undeniable, mathematical, and scientific, but you don't know the first thing about it. What is the discovery Chuck? All you are doing is pulling pages out of the book that without the right context will look ridiculous. Anyone can do that if that's their goal. If you think you're the true steward (which I don't think you actually believe), you are seriously delusional.

In view of this exponential growth of traffic, Have you considered hiring someone to take care of the heavy social media volumes you are experiencing so you can continue to focus on your core competency?

Your sarcasm is noted. Srsly Vivisectus, do you actually believe that the number of likes I get prove this discovery's value?

peacegirl, all you are doing is Corrupting the text and then hawking your Corrupted Text online for lucre at $41.00 a pop!
Dear listeners, please be aware that peacegirl's Corrupted Text is Corrupt and must be rejected. I invite you to join me, the True Steward of the Authentic Text, in rejecting the Corrupted Text, and interpreting the Authentic Text as written by the Author and published in his lifetime.

peacegirl, did you sign up for bookbuzzr's $9 monthly plan or the $60 yearly plan? That's a couple of Starbucks coffees per month...

The amount of traffic is irrelevant Chuck, and you know it as well as I. It proves nothing in regard to the legitimacy or relevancy of the page. I do appreciate your advertising free of charge. I like Bookbuzzer and I may upgrade my subscription. Thanks for the tip.

So, so true, peacegirl; a million copies of your Corrupted Text are just as Corrupt as a single copy.
There is no authentic text but the Authentic Text as written by the Author and published in his lifetime. Your Corrupted Text is Corrupt and must be rejected.

You're nonstop Chuck repeating the same garbage over and over. What surprises me most is the lack of questioning that philosophy is about; you know like Plato suggested? You are not a philosopher. You don't belong here.

As a postscript, forget my version if it bothers you so much. I will gladly sell the limited mint copies that Lessans had printed in his lifetime. That would make me elated, but I am not giving them away. I will sell them at a reasonable price. These books will be worth a lot in the future.

Done! Your "version" is a fraudulent corruption that bears little to no resemblance to what Seymour Lessans wrote and published during his lifetime. Forgetting your "version" is indeed the only proper course.

Your offer to money-grub is duly noted, but why would anyone do that? A certain someone in this very thread is giving this knowledge away to a world in need, free of charge. You know, like a True Steward and not a money-grubbing hack.
It's too bad that you're unable or unwilling to open the door marked "My Penis is Like a Phallic Symbol," thereby accessing knowledge that can transmute the baser metals of your nature into the pure gold of the Golden Age. Hope springs eternal, though, and it is my wish that someday you'll find the moral courage to join us. It would be a shame if you had to spend all your Golden Age time locked away in a mental hospital (humanely and for your own good, of course).

Maybe there are other Lessans memorabilia you could start to preserve now, so that later you can offer them to the museum that will one day be dedicated to the Savior of Mankind. At a nominal price that is significantly lower than what you could raise at a public auction, of course.

People sell knowledge all the time. $4.99 will not sop someone who wants to read the book. $10 for the original won't either.

We covered this already.:
Quote:
Maturin is apparently a ball of self-loathing hatred and toxic internalized rage. I am sure he cries himself to sleep every night, twisting and writhing in his sweaty sheets as he tries desperately to control the broiling mass of conflicting emotions deep inside, and that he wakes up in the night regularly with a shout of "Damn you Lessans! Why is it all so undeniable and mathematical!!!" on his lips. And then after a few scant hours of sleep he drags himself through his days, haunted by just how undeniable and scientific it all is, until he finally gives in to the dirty, dirty pleasure of posting some more of his vitriol in here.
Amazingly, this terrible syndrome is incredibly common. Out of a half-dozen random people, only Peacegirl seems immune to it. There is not a single person on this thread other than Peacegirl who is not stuffed to the very brim with fear, confusion, roiling self-hatred and dark brooding loathing, it seems!
This book has apparently driven so many people to the brink that it makes the Necronomicon look like Readers Digest. But then again, when it comes to inspiring violently psychopathic outbursts of rage and loathing, I suppose readers digest is bad enough.

Exactly! And one day, when people finally realize that he was the Messiah sent to us by God, who is the laws of the universe, but still has a plan, you will be perfectly entitled to sell a box of his toenail clippings, which will be very valuable at that stage, to ensure a grateful public can reverently file past it when it is displayed under a large statue of the great man.

He never said he was the Messiah except jokingly. He said the laws of our nature, when applied to the environment as a permanent condition, will bring about peace on earth.
