Default Shadowy Pro-Homos

A recording of the Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott just called to warn me that a "shadowy group" was making deceptive phone calls to trick people into voting the wrong way on proposition two. The recording wanted to make sure I was clear that voting FOR proposition two is a vote FOR preserving traditional marriage, by keeping it between a man and a woman. If I was employed I'd be pissed that my tax dollars were being used to promote bigotry, especially in a state that consists entirely of steers and queers.

If a phone call advocating a vote was paid for by the taxpayers it was probably illegal. I'm sure the language was twisted in such a way to make it appear to be informative rather than persuasive, but c'mon. I've never had a government office phone me to clarify something.

If the attorney general wants to preserve traditional marriage, I suggest offering him 60 shekels for his daughter like it says in the Bible. And keep tradition by not beating her up until you are legally married.

I got some messages during a Nevada election that sounded like they were from government officials, and they were fraudulant and from various special interest groups.

I would complain to the AGs office and make it sound like you KNOW it couldn't possibly be them, because you are pretty sure that would be illegal in some way.

It took a little digging, but I found the Shadowy Group. They're arguing that the proposition as written bans all marriages, not just homo marriages, by saying "THIS STATE or a political subdivision of THIS STATE MAY NOT CREATE OR RECOGNIZE ANY LEGAL STATUS IDENTICAL or similar to MARRIAGE."

See, 'cause marriage between a man and woman is a legal status identical to marriage.

Oh, ha ha!

I forgot how much you "first Tuesday after the first Monday" fuckers suck!

We already voted yesterday. And we won, too.

(Actually, apparently, it's a fucking TYPO or something where the "after the first Monday" part got taken out of this dumbassed amendment we should never have passed, so on odd-numbered years, we get to vote way early.)

We still win, though.

ETA:

Oh. Sorry. I was so busy gloating I forgot what I was going to say, but yeah, technically, the way that's worded, it really does outlaw all marriage in Texas. I'm for it. I think it should be retroactive, even, and we should go back and stamp "BASTARD" in big red letters on all forms of identification of anyone born in Texas.

That is one hell of a poorly worded amendment.

I didn't even know a vote was happening -- much less an attempt to amend the state constitution -- until I got that call. Now I feel like going out to vote against Prop 2, but I don't even know if I'm registered! I swear I registered last year but I can't seem to find any documentation to that effect.

You just go vote on Tuesday. You shouldn't need your registration card or anything like that. Just an ID, maybe.

From there, it's all smooth sailing to your FREE STICKER.

You're in a different state, but I imagine you have a Department of Elections just like we have here. They should be able to hook you up with a polling place. If you can't find or make it to your designated polling location, and it's too late for an absentee ballot, then you should be able to vote at your City Hall building.

Cool, thanks for the infos. I'm looking forward to smacking this injustice down! Marriage is sacred, I won't let it be outlawed.
