Default Local Election Issues

The two issues I voted on Tuesday ended up a mixed bag of results. The 1/3 cent county sales tax extension passed overwhelmingly, construction begins next Spring. One of the projects is extending 81st street for 1 mile, connecting it to Highway 97. The school bond vote garnered 52% yes votes, but fell short of the required supermajority, 60%. The school superintendent said "Losing the first proposition really hurts, I just don't know how we can continue without its passage." The first proposition was for more classrooms. I think I see a merger of this small country "dependent school district" and the town's school district coming. It'll probably be changed to an elementary school and all the 7th and 8th graders will be bussed to town with their high school counterparts.

Any issues about homos in Oklahoma have long been decided by a population that still supports W by about a 2:1 margin: they don't exist.

I still can't find the results of the proposition to give the local volunteer firefighters a pension fund. I voted against it, but the local paper didn't report the results, and it's not on the newspaper's web site, or the town's. The fire department's domain name expired, so I can't look at their site.

I also voted against special legislative powers for the state when they can't reach a budget consensus by the start of a new fiscal year. In general, I'd rather have the process stagnate than trust those greedy bastards to pass a reasonable "contingency budget" without the governor's approval.

I did vote for a transportation bill that requires the state bond its way into more debt. I figure, what the hell, we're FUBAR anyway. :chin:
