Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
RIP as well to David Lindley, longtime guitarist and fiddle player for Jackson Browne and numerous others. It’s almost impossible to overstate how important Lindley was to Browne’s best music. “Before the Deluge” wouldn’t have half the impact it does without Lindley’s fiddle. (Another crucial component of its impact is the harmony vocals.)
His list of credits extends much further than that; he performed with Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Toto, Joe Walsh, Rod Stewart, Leonard Cohen, Warren Zevon, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, David Crosby, and numerous others. His contributions to Browne’s music will probably serve as the cornerstone of his legacy, though. He was 78. He will be missed.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
The Tom Sizemore scene that came immediately to mind is one that may only exist in my mind, because I can't find any references to it out in the world. During my search I did learn, however, that all these actors were in Saving Private Ryan.
Bryan Cranston
Nathan Fillion
Dennis Farina
Paul Giamatti
Ted Danson
Matt Damon
Giovanni Ribisi
Vin Diesel
I should probably watch that movie again because I didn't remember any of them being in it. Or maybe that's a sign that I don't need to watch it again.

Damn. One of the best times I ever had concert-wise was a Lynyrd Skynyrd show where the opening act was Golden Earring. Gary Rossington and Alan Collins could well and truly tear it up. At the end of the day, my favorite Skynyrd tune was actually a J.J. Cale tune.

Jacked up! Broke my left kneecap into three pieces. Surgery is set for Monday 3/13. The surgeon says it'll be weight-bearing almost immediately and there'll be no cast (brace for six weeks), so the recovery may not be as ghastly as I anticipated.
Just found out that my cut of the hospital bill will be nearly $4K.

Pat Schroeder, former Colorado Congresswoman dies.
The Mrs and I met her, once. We were at the new Denver airport, when they opened it up for people to come see it before it began operations. We ended up touring a lot of it with her.
Her sense of humor and sense of purpose are hard to find these days in Congress.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Dammit.
My dad liked her so much that my parents had a joke that if Pat Schroeder asked him to run away with her, he was allowed to go. (My mom's was Charles Bronson.)
Not long after my dad died--maybe a week or so--I was sitting on out on the 16th Street mall in Denver on my lunch break when Pat Schroeder came and asked if she could sit next to me. I said yes, she made some small talk, and I told her about my dad. She said she was flattered, offered her condolences, and assured me she'd never do such a thing. I assured her that we all knew that, then we went our separate ways.
Quite some time later, probably a year or so, I was with a couple of friends in a different part of Denver, on our way to this one place for their Saturday paella special when a huge throng of important looking people approached walking the opposite direction. As we got closer, Pat Schroeder emerged from the group and said, "Lisa!" then asked me how I was, and how my mom was doing.
We talked for a minute or so while my friends and her security detail stood back, then went our separate ways again. Needless to say, though, my friends were a little surprised.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Lance Reddick, age 60. I most remember him for playing Lt. Cedric Daniels in The Wire. Though it seems he was in about a billion other things, all of which he was fantastic in. He had fantastic range as both a dramatic and comedic actor, an immediately arresting screen presence, and that fucking voice. The instant you heard him, you knew who it was - it couldn't possibly have been anyone else. And there was such gravitas to his speech. He was more commanding with a whisper than many actors are with a shout.
If you haven't seen The Wire yet, drop whatever you're doing right now and go watch it. I doubt there will ever be a greater sixty hours of television ever again.
This one fucking hurts.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Fringe was amazing. He was also great in Bosch, which is also an excellent show, and although I’ve never played any of these, he was also well known for voicing (and providing the likeness for) Commander Zavala in Bungie’s Destiny series, Sylens in the Horizon series, and Martin Hatch in Quantum Break. Plus he was Charon in the John Wick franchise. And… his list of credits is ridiculously long.
But seriously, watch The Wire at the earliest possible opportunity. Your life won’t be complete until you do.

I played quite a bit of Destiny and Destiny 2, and Reddick as the voice of Commander Zavala was always a major highlight. It hits home when younger people in much better physical condition than me die.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
I accidentally abused my admin powers and clicked "Remove All" (which removes all "thanks"es) on my last post, so there are now two thankses lost to posterity. On another note, I was in the mood for zombies yesterday so I decided to (re)watch the recently released first (and last) season of Resident Evil on Netflix. Because I am old and losing my mind I didn't remember a single thing about it despite having watched it last August, although thankfully I remembered things as they happened. The pertinence of all this to this thread is that the show starred Lance Reddick, so it would appear that is one of the places I have seen him since Fringe. I actually thought it was a perfectly cromulent contribution to the genre but it was broadly despised and/or ignored, and thus cancelled last year. So at least we won't have to experience a CGI Lance Reddick starring in a zombie show.

Aw that's a bummer. I recently started watching Fringe, because it comes recommended by some fans of Lost, but then I quit watching Fringe because, yeah, no. But I loved him in the Wire and in Lost.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
RIP Ray Shulman, an integral part of the British prog band Gentle Giant. Shulman was a multi instrumentalist - violin and percussion here . . .
. . . but really stood out as a bassist. Our old friend D. Scarlatti, a bassist himself, considered Shulman second only to the late, great Jaco Pastorius.
