lol...inflict my crap? i simply stated a point. i have an audience, crumb...and you took my use of that word out of context.

how do i earn it? by just playing word games all day? naw...

Since I'm not actually ignoring you, I'll engage and point out that your argument is pretty weak. You seem to be equating individuals' choices, and ff's making choices available to its members with some sort of overall censorship of YOU.

Care to state simply what your version "freedom really is"?

totally taken out of context to win a point. it ain't working. this is not a subway but a forum that claims to support free thought. you have the right to simply ignore me by not reading, but an ignore feature is not that. it is a tool to bully...as evidenced by the celebratory thread regarding my being ignored by some...

i am entitled full access to everybody here. it is up to them to just ignore me. using a tool to help accomplish that strips your own freedom from learning tolerance. using it as a team sport...strips MY freedom.

i just explained the first bit in a reply to liv.

what is freedom? the same rules applied to everybody. team ignoring and ganging up by people who share similar values and beliefs...that ain't it. it is your freedom to do that, but it has nothing to do with free speech or thinking.

michael :)

Celebrating ignoring someone, and just quietly ignoring them are two different things. I can see why the former bothers you. But realize that quietly ignoring someone you don't want to read bothers no one, and improves the :ff: browsing experience for some.

i agree with you 100 percent...i just don't think you need a button to do that. i think that steps on the intent of this forum, which i believe is free thinking.

and how is thought free when you place brackets or blinders on it? using the feature is as much an impediment to your freedom as it is to the person being ignored...probably more in the end. your thoughts are only free around other thoughts that are the same...is that really free? the choice is, but is the outcome?

i don't think so.

hey vm...i've got deja vu :)

(this time im no pussy...i'm staying :) )

This is not the thoughtfree forum, but it is the Ignored-poster-free forum.

People use a variety of ignore features for a variety of reasons. They can ignore an avatar they don't like, they can prevent someone from emailing or PMing them, they can ignore a thread with lots of pictures of big, hairy spiders, they can tune out a drama they're not interested in, they can do lots of things for lots of reasons.

It's true that we are dedicated to the free exchange of ideas and it's true that this isn't a subway but a very specific and unique text-based medium. That very medium that allows so much freedom can also have something of an echo-chamber effect which can be maddening even to the point of materially damaging the environment. Some forums choose to counter this effect by shushing people. We offer headphones.

You are entitled to no such thing. People limit access to themselves in a myriad ways using the software tools to help accomplish that, starting with usernames.

Whether someone uses any of these features says nothing about their tolerance or anything else about their character.

It's not personally to my taste, but I disagree that it strips your freedom. I think it teaches you tolerance.

oh liv...come on...how does using an ignroe button teach tolerance? even you gotta see that for what it is :D

btw...in every example you gave, i can find a way to ignore without using a button.

we aren't going to agree on this, so i will give up. it's your forum and it's a good one. take care.

i will concede this...i guess the ignore feature would work if somebody was a spammer and troll in the real sense. those people fuck with our freedom and so have it coming. i give in on that...though i still wouldn't use it :P

well...i'm off for a bike ride! enjoy the day :D

No shit. Read it as "Your right to post your writings ends where the other man's right to choose what he reads begins", and that's precisely what you're "entitled to" here. Besides, didn't you just complain about being hurt by the ignore feature?

dammit! i just about escaped..

yes...right to choose. is there a choice when every thread is ignored? no there isn't. i might have pissed some people off in the grace thread, but i think i also add some ok things. i contribute always with good intentions...but when i am ignored, it is all ignored...who is punching who? what does that have to do with the right to choose when there is nothing to choose from?

michael :)

of course it smarts to see a group of people set out to ignore you and enjoy themselves. i actually don't think i am weak...i am being nice, patient and i am still here.

if anything, my problem is in not letting things go. time to teach myself a lesson...

Somewhere I missed how calling people "weak" over and over is nice and patient.
