John Bolton, emerging from a meeting of the U.N. Security Council with fellow ambassadors from Japan and the U.K., seized the opportunity to deliver a domestic partisan political message by praising President Bush's "wisdom" in his calls to resurrect the so-called 'Star Wars' missile defense system.

While Kim Jong Il may be "a weird little man," according to a CNN 'reporter,' I sure wish these tinpot dictators would quit playing into the hands of cynical Republican functionaries like John Bolton. It seems to me pretty inappropriate to the role of the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. to be scoring partisan points on this issue.

True patriots gotta love that guy. It's about time we got a UN ambassador with guts.

I can just hear all those leftwing diplomats from socialist countries crying in their beer. "No fair", they cry, "The American called the weird little man a wierd little man."

President Bush did a smooth move with Bolton. I like it. Now the next step is to cut off funding from the UN until the corruption is cleaned up. If it isn't cleaned up, the UN will go out of business.

I agree it's great wisdom to "resurrect" a system which has cost billions to create a semi-functional defense against something that isn't a major threat.

Well I've heard it can sometimes take out a pre-set target that uses minimal counter measure systems. That is when the interceptor missle doesn't explode seconds after launch.

Kimmy might be a bit crazy but he does seem to want to keep his country around. An ICBM attack on the US (possibly even with a plain warhead) would probably result in a new glass parking lot for south korea. So an ICBM attack from a country that doesn't appear to have a single working rocket is low on the list of possible dangers to the US.

Oh yeah, like we're going to nuke a country that is a stone's throw from Seoul and upwind of Japan.

If one of their nukes (or even ICBMs) hit our country, I wouldn't doubt it.
Of course I also think it's unlikely for them to do that and that if they plan any fighting, an attack on the US isn't it.

Russia and China Resist Sanctions for North Korea

Mr. Putin said he was disappointed' that North Korea had conducted the test-firings of seven missiles on Wednesday. But he also said that the North Korean regime was correct to say that it had the legal right to conduct the launches.

If other countries can conduct weapons tests, why not NK? I'm sure NK trusts the U.S. every bit as much as the U.S. trusts NK.

The United States ambassador to the United Nations, John R. Bolton, said before the meeting today that countries that have "leverage" with North Korea "bear the responsibility to use that."

This is Bush / Bolton "diplomacy": threaten your enemies and your allies.
