btw...i don't think this is affront to white people. it is black people that get hurt the most...their racism isn't quite seen as being as powerful by what appears to me (based solely on life experience) to be the majority of people...

Alternatively, encouraging black people to see black doctors may be an attempt to counter pervasive black-on-black racism. See this article by a black doctor to get an idea of the racism she experiences on a daily basis.

Where's the *real* doctor?

Only a small portion of the growing number of female doctors—not quite 4 percent—look like me. Perhaps that's why, for most people, "doctor" still doesn't fit the stereotypical image of a black woman in this country. Unfortunately, black children may be even more adversely affected by this than white ones. That point was driven home to me months ago, when a 6-year-old black girl refused to let me treat her when her mother brought her to the emergency room and left us alone. She insisted on being seen by a white doctor, leaving me feeling both embarrassed and humiliated.

In any case one might choose one doctor over another for countless reasons unrelated to their biological compatibility, of course, and of course that's perfectly within their rights. Perhaps y'all think that choosing a doctor who's male over a female, graduated Harvard over Yale, or attends your church over a stranger is sexist, Yaleist or non-Church Memberist, but I think that's ridiculous.

Even if this were true-- and as usual, you offer not a sliver of proof that "keep it in the community" is code for anything -- I noted in my post -- which, again as usual, you ignored -- that there are plenty of reasons unrelated to "keep it in the community" for which someone might advocate visiting black doctors.

Do you have any substantive comment to make on those issues?
