Re: Don't give your money to those evil racist white devils!
Croissants, croissants, croissants. On every channel all day and night. I wish I could find out what the weather will be like tomorrow, but even the Weather Channel is non-stop:
Jan: Today in Boston, we found yet another white eating what appears to be a raspberry flavored croissant.
Michael: Jan, are you able to confirm from your vantage point that it is a raspberry croissant, or is it possibly some other flavor?
(Vincent on camera): Want I should zoom in?
Jan: One moment Michael. *nods to Vincent*
(Vincent zooms in.)
Michael: Ah, okay. We can see from the studio now that it is in fact raspberry.
Re: Don't give your money to those evil racist white devils!
I don't know. I rarely go to the doctor, but I think, if I weren't white, I would probably lean towards finding a doctor who was the same color as me. I would imagine there is a certain comfort, a little more trust, perhaps, being with someone your own race. That has nothing to do with racism, I don't think. Sure, perhaps in some instances it does, but I'd guess it's not as rampant as angrybs (great call, DScar, I think we've finally got a name that will stick) would have you believe.
And liv, before you start in on me, these are just my opinons. LOL. I have nothing to back them up! Don't slice me!
My doctor is Hispanic, I think. I haven't been there in probably 3 years or better. I've had male and female doctors, and don't have a problem with their gender or color. The way I see it, they know way more than me, no matter where they come from.
And finally, The Lone Ranger's post was really informative. Perhaps the 'findablackdoctor' is encouraging people to find doctors of their own race because of their education in black medicine.

Your personal preferences don't require evidentiary support beyond your stating of them. Having had to sift through more than my fair share of doctors, I'm all about the personal choice based on personal criteria in this area. It's angrybellsprout who thinks it's racist for one of those criteria to be race, not me.
I just think it's bullshit to claim that people offering a list of black doctors are doing it so black people won't "give their money to evil racist white devils". It's also bullshit to claim the media "don't think black supremacists exist". Those are the assertions I took issue with.
Re: Don't give your money to those evil racist white devils!
Talk about a lot of nonsense. What doctor you have is such a big deal? Who cares? Is the doctor competent? I spent 150 days in the hospital in 1979 and had doctors of all persuasions: male, female, white, black, Indian, Oriental, young, and old. All that ever mattered was whether the doctor could do the job. If someone feels comfortable with a particular doctor so what. If some African Americans feel more comfortable with an AA doctor that is their choice. I picked my primary care doctor, who is Jewish. Like I give a crap what religion my doctor is!

Growing up in a military community you got doctors of all kinds of races, and I never questioned it. My problem is with those who do start to base everything on race, especially when they start to associate with black nationalist slogans in their adverts. We have a black bookstore in the town next to mine that focuses everything around a black nationalist slogan.
Then you have the 'keep it in the community' morons who think that it is more important to go out of your way and pay more money and get lower quality just to make sure that you give your money to those of your own race.

The local medical practioner that I patronize is a white male. He has a white female physicians assistant. When I have to go in for my annual physical, I prefer the P.A. When she does the prostate exam, her finger is smaller. On a pure aesthetic level, I prefer having a woman stick her finger up my butt. Is that sexist?

Re: Don't give your money to those evil racist white devils!
For entertainment I googled "keep it in the community"
guess what I found on the first page.
Black pride sites?
Or
Community outlook programs (and other assorted attempts to keep money in the community)?
Not the first one.
Ok, so that wasn't scientific, or up on the latest black hip terms, but whatever.

Hmmm...The only place I've heard that "keep it in the community" stuff is in the regular battles against the likes of Wal-Mart. It's in support of local independent merchants (no matter the race, color or creed) who do, it must be admitted, sell their wares at prices higher than Wal-Mart. Yet, at the same time, I always know what I'm getting, I get decent advice, I get service and I get what I pay for. This is something I've never obtained in my few trips to Wal-Mart. I'd much rather pay good money to the local hardware store where he employs former workmen who know their tools and materials, as versus spending my money as a place that hires employees on the basis of how desperate they are for employment and how easy they are to intimidate into illegal activity without complaining to the authorities.

Would it be wrong of me to put this in the random quote generator?
It would be evil, vm, pure evil. But what the hell, the only truly bad publicity is no publicity at all.

I used to think that way, until I got a physician who, as far as I was concerned, had two problems. First, he tended to perceive alternative healthcare providers uniformly as "quacks"...to the detriment of my getting timely chiropractic treatment. Second, I found out that his opinions regarding 'end of life' treatment were considerably at odds from mine. His basis? His Catholicism. In this particular instance, I found it adviseable to seek another primary care physician, as I did not want some Catholic "quack" ignoring the stipulations of my living will because of his personal philosophical foibles.
The religion of your physician can potenitally have far reaching affects upon your individual care in the event of a catastrophic health incident.
