My money is on Obama ...
If the Democrats lose in 2008, they can probably thank Hillary for that.
I bet she brings down the entire party in a " If I can't be the candidate, no one can!" type of fiasco.

Re: My money is on Obama ...
At least it'll be entertaining.
I'm much more interested in the D's race right now than the R's. Between Obama, Hillary and Richardson, they have a selection of candidates that spreads pretty evenly between the appeal of the further left, the left, and the centre left. On the R side, I'm getting the impression that there's a significant portion of their voters who aren't particularly enthralled with any candidate.

The Dems certainly have name recognition. The Repubs have McCain. Joy joy.

I guarantee that if Hillary is the Democratic nominee for President who the hell ever the Republicans choose will win, unless it's Condaleeza Rice. If that were to happen, all predictions are out the window.

I wouldn't bet against you, though to be honest ... I don't think she'll get it.

That's my concern, TomJoe. Once the Clinton shit machine gets rolling in earnest it'll be nigh on impossible to stop.
I'm an Edwards supporter at this point, but as between Clinton and Obama I'll take the latter a hundred times out of a hundred.

Hillary won't get the nomination and neither will Obama. Hillary is too polarizing and Obama is too inexperienced and he's black. The two of them will beat each other up with the MSM's help, and John Edwards or Al Gore will be the one left standing for the general election.

It's early times, yet.
Hell, all the horses aren't even at the gates.
So far, I haven't seen anything I'd put money on. I'm holding my wager...possibly until as late as California (June '08). I have clearly stricken some, like McCain and Clinton, from any further consideration.

Edwards is definitely a contender. I'd still put Richardson over Gore though. Not much name recognition per se, but a good dark horse.

Re: My money is on Obama ...
With Dean at the DNC and Hillary's DLC credentials, a general with Hillary as candidate could be very bloody indeed for the Democrats. If Hillary doesn't make it through super Tuesday (and I hope she doesn't), maybe that will be the nail in the DLC's coffin. I'm ambivalent about Obama, but fully agree that a Clinton ticket could tear the party apart.

I predict Rudy Giuliani can't even get the Republican nomination. The man has too much baggage. He's pro-choice. He's divorced under some rather weird circumstances. Blah-blah-blah, on and on.

That was a low blow and completely uncalled for. I don't think we Americans can do worse than Bush.

You're joking, right? McCain has a better chance at the Republican nomination than Rudy does...and neither of them has a chance in hell of the nomination. In my opinion, the two most likely nominees are Huckabee or Brownback. Huckabee because he'd have some crossover appeal, and Brownback because he's just as loony as the GOP base. Barring some unforeseen event, the Democratic nominee will win the presidency in 2008.

Re: My money is on Obama ...
Apparently, though, McCain's poll rating is at about 18% and Giuliani's is at around 48%, which is pretty high - higher than either Clinton's or Barrack's (or anyone else's) poll ratings. At least that's what Fox said on their free to air thing in NZ in the middle of the night.

Re: My money is on Obama ...
Right now, when people think of Rudy, they think of him on 9/11 and 9/12. They don't think of the personal scandals that engulfed him before then, and they don't think of his pro-choice, pro-gay rights politics. That will come out in the primary, especially with a nutjob like Brownback in the game. And the Italian Catholic thing won't play in the south.
McCain is fucked already, and it's only going to get worse. He's going to get thumped on all sides; "maverick" = "flip flopper."

Ahh, but so do many Americans. Fox is pretty powerful - look at the last two elections and the way Fox played the public on everything from the war to gay rights to Terry Schiavo etc, conning the public into vehemently believing Bush Co was the way to go - not once, but twice! despite the real evidence that the man was a total fuck up from the day he was born.
And right now, they appear to be backing Giuliani.

The only people listening to Faux News preach are the choir and those of us who like to know what the enemy's up to. The have been very powerful for the past ten years, but they've lost a lot of their middle-of-the-road viewers in the past 18 months or so because they've been proven to be a mouthpiece for the Republican party. The only people that agree with them are the blind 28% of Americans who still approve of the Bu$h administration. Most Americans have realized what's going on with both of them, and now know that neither can be trusted. It's just too bad that it took so damn long to come to that realization.

Re: My money is on Obama ...
I don't think that it's necessarily so that a Democrat will win in 2008, JackDog--it's far from certain. From where I sit, thinking about the Republicans that I know, I would say that Rudy and Huckabee have the best chances. People who voted for Bush before are probably not going to vote for McCain, even if he's slinked over to the right more. Brownback is the Alan Keyes candidate--only the extremely conservative Christians will vote for him, and they really aren't a majority in the Republican party.
Rudy and Huckabee have both been executives, and that seems to play pretty well. I would lean toward Huckabee being the candidate, mostly because I haven't heard anything horrible about him and he seems to have been a decent governor. Huckabee's exploratory website does not mention the war directly in any of his issues pages, which is good for him because he doesn't have to get bogged down in that and can wait and see for a little bit. I don't think that a pro-war Republican will do well in the upcoming election. He doesn't come off as a nut, and yet he hits all the right notes with respect to separation of church and state, abortion, gun rights, no gay marriage, etc.
Huckabee vs. Hillary would be a Republican win.

Ahh....ya gotta love the Onion
Giuliani To Run For President Of 9/11
"Sure, he has no foreign or national policy experience, and both his personal life and political career are riddled with scandal," said Hammond. "But in the key area of having been on TV on 9/11, the other candidates simply cannot match him. And as we saw in 2004, that's what matters most to voters in this post-9/11 world."

Well, they won't have Tom Vilsack to kick around anymore. Twenty months from election day and it's already gotten too expensive.
