Palin linked electoral success to prayer of Kenyan witchhunter
US Elections - Times Online - WBLG: Palin linked electoral success to prayer of Kenyan witchhunter
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. That people like this are seriously considered for the highest offices in such a modern and powerful nation as the US is beyond my comprehension. If we were talking about Congo or something, sure....
(Rocky'll hate this OP, fershur. Sorry, but what can one say after reading the article and listening to that awful voice speak on the video?)

Jesus fucking Christ religion makes some people stupid.
I made the another mistake trying to read some of the comments to the linked article. It makes me weep for the future of this country.
You could fill up several editions of FSTDT just from those comments alone.
Excuse me, but I have to go read the EMS horror story thread on the Student Doctor Network, see my sig, to restore some of my faith in humanity.

Re: Palin linked electoral success to prayer of Kenyan witchhunter
Y'know...If they allow all sane Alaskans to move, say here in Cascadia, on the basis of their taking 'end times' christians out of my neighborhood...I say go for it.
I mean, refugees from an insane Alaska should be welcome here in Cascadia. We are on a border and we have a humanitarian duty to assist the victims of insanity.
Contrarily, those here in Cascadia who seek to make it a 'godly region' have an answer. 'Go to Alaska' we say. 'Go north, wingnut.'

I had no idea Alaska was a fermenting basin of religious insanity.

Wasilla is, evidently.
Look...Alaska is filled with a whole lotta people who 'just didn't fit in' somewhere else. There's all kinds there. It's the fermenting basin of Libertarianism and objectivism, too. And survivalists. All well armed, too.
I understand that Wasilla is considered by the state police to be the state's center of the crystal meth activity, too. Great...crackpots on meth.
Don't get me wrong, there are decent people in Alaska, it just has a higher proportion of whackjobs than most other places....obviously, this includes 'end times' christian whackjobs.

They need something to occupy their time up there. Might as well be lunacy.

Petra, how big is your place in New Zealand? Would you be willing to accommodate between 50 and 100 or so Freethought Forum posters after Mr. McGoo and The Ditz are elected in November, as probably they will be?
In return for accomodations, we'll do the dishes, cook breakfast and watch out for Zoe.
Then we can all sit back and laugh as America is turned over to the likes of Mr. McGoo, The Ditz, yguy and Rocky, and watch a once great country collapse just as it has come to deserve.

Come on over!
I have a dishwasher already, but if you can iron that'd put you first on the list. And you can help me out with Lyn. (That'll be fun for y'all! )
If we run out of room, we can always get tents to pitch outside.

I'd invite you over here but if when McCain/Palin are elected I'm pretty sure this small patch of the Netherlands will have to accommodate all the refugees from the parts that will be under water when Global Warming kicks in for real.

I have no problem whatsoever with ironing, though personally I just get my shirts on hangers the second the dryer cycle is done.

The dryer cycle? Dude, I ain't rich. You'll be hanging out washing on the clothesline to air your knickers properly as God intended.
Dryer cycle! Tch!

Careful, we're going to upset Shelli and Crumb if we don't stop with this defeatist attitude...

According to the NYT, the Wasilla folks were originally Dust Bowl transplants and dyed-in-the-wool Democrats. That changed recently, obviously.
The church in the video appears to be an intentional clone of the style/approach of Seattle's Mars Hill - google the videos; you'll see the same sort of metal / edgy / skateboarderz for God aesthetic.

If New Zealand gets full, Australia has room. And a left(ish) wing government.

I lived in Alaska from 90 to 94, and I don't remember there being a fundamentalist evangelical overtone at all. Coming from the Southern Appalachians, it seemed like a bunch of bleeding heart liberal types to me. As a matter of fact, they started me on my road to bleeding heart liberalism.
