Comedy Wolcott on Rush and Blow Jobs

In case anyone missed it, a few days ago Rush Limbaugh talked some shit about how today's wayward youth are only interested in getting their collective cock sucked (I won't even get into Rush's obvious disinterst in cunnilingus), presumably after hearing about a UCSF survey on kids' beliefs about the relative safety of oral sex.

Amidst all the snickering commentary on Rush's, um, outburst, James Wolcott yet again hits the nail on the proverbial head. Check out his latest blog entry, On Some Sad Laps, No Heads Bob.

poor RushYet, like so many products and pleasures, blowjobs aren't evenly distributed in society. It's a renewable natural resource not everyone gets to enjoy, and I was struck by the vehement tone of Limbaugh's tirade. He sounded bitter. I've seen this rancor inflict so many middle-aged men. Reading about all the oral sex young people are presumably having, they feel envious and resentful. No classmates were treating them to afterschool blowjobs in high school! Nor were hot teachers like that one in Florida seducing them in parked cars. It doesn't seem fair. It doesn't seem just. We're living in the Golden Age of BJs, and men in Rush's recumbent position feel barred from Eden, forced to imagine the action from their recliners as they stare sullenly at their plasma screens.

Wow. I've never listened to Rush's show but I've heard enough about it to know that I'd probably want to kick puppies or something if I did. What a nutjob. I loved the Wolcott piece, but his own words were even better:

Quote:

Limbaugh went on to blame former President Bill Clinton for making oral sex "the number one sport in high school today. " He also referred to Gore's venture as "a BJ network" and "the oral sex channel."

Later in his show Limbaugh apologized, sort of. "I am going to apologize not for saying what I said, but I'm going to apologize if it offended anybody," he said. "I never apologize for what I say, but if some of you were offended by a graphic term involving actions committed by Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, that have now spread to America’s high schools, I apologize."

"I meant to say 'oral sex' throughout," he went on to say, "but the guttural term escaped my pouty lips in a moment of pure, unbridled passion. The staff was so stunned and so scared today they didn't dare hit the delete button, the deedle button, and so it got out there. My reaction is, somebody go ahead and turn me into the FCC. I'll be honored to be fined. It's just another government agency with its hand in my back pocket, so go right ahead."

Man, I need to clear my head.

My first reaction to this thread title involved pscyho-killers in Deadwood, rock bands and oral sex.

I couldn't figure out what this thread would be about, but was greatly intrigued.

Great post, thanks, I need to pay more attention to this Wolcott feller.

As for Rush's quote, I feel sick:

Another Wolcott excerptLimbaugh seemed to be implying at the top of his voice that blowjobs are an integral part of the liberal agenda, an argument which he may want to rethink. The popularity of blowjobs is difficult to metric but undeniable; they cause little harm and zero unwanted pregnancies. If the plentitude of blowjobs is part of the Clinton legacy, millions owe the former president a debt of gratitude and an annual pilgrimage to the Clinton Memorial Library in Arkansas.

Of course, such a pilgrimage would have to be taken by the pilgrim walking on his/her knees.

The o.p. blog quote reminded me of this story I saw in a thread at II.

You really do. He's a media critic mainly. I discovered him when surfing around for Law & Order reviews (there's a thread around here somewhere but I'm too lazy to look it up right now). Browse his archives sometime; you won't regret it.

It is to laff. This reminds me of a rare candid conversation with my grandmother about S-E-X, many years ago (I must have been about 17) in which she busted out with "What, you kids think you invented oral sex?"
