It's only just the start. There's a lot of work to be done, not the least of which is reaching across the aisle both in Congress and across this country. Enough with the divisive politics. Enough with the fear tactics and the blame game.
I snuck a peek over at the Freepers and those people are scared and bitter. I can only imagine that Liberals sounded much the same in 2004.
But, if all we accomplish with this historic election is simply switching places with one another, we'll have accomplished little. There's gotta be a way to show that we have more in common than not.

The state has no business recognizing marriages at all.

Better yet, you may actually become enlightened and reject the state's authority in recognizing any kind of marriage at all. You can actually lead the world towards true freedom -- but that is a long shot.

Okay, I've just been informed that I'm sickly and should be in bed, so to bed I grudgingly go and Tigger willing, I'll wake tomorrow to Obama as our new President.
Make the SO drag the tele into the bedroom.
I would have, but I watch everything on my puter which would be a bit cumbersome to drag upstairs, tower, speakers and all.

Not only that, but I think Gordon Smith and Norm Coleman and even Ted fucking Stevens are gonna hang on to their Senate seats. WTF!
I'm not worried about Smith and Coleman atm, there's still counting to be done and the margins are really thin. Ted Stevens though. God damn. They're voting for his Palin-appointed successor.
Looks like all the votes are counted in MN and it's Coleman - by less than 800. Recount coming. I have no idea what's going on in Alaska, but Stevens may pull it out, and it looks like OR is still counting.
While I would like to see the Democrats at 60, 57 is as good as 58 - they can kick Lieberman out of the caucus.
How come nobody's called North Carolina? it said 100% of precincts reporting since before I went to sleep. And CNN still didn't call Indiana, though NPR did.
I got home around 11 pm from my parent's place, where we watched the election results come in. I think this may be the first time we all voted for the same person, as each of us is an independent voter, and I have voted both Republican and Democrat through the years. I left before the speech by Obama, listening only to the gracious McCain concession speech.
I listened to Obama's speech this morning, and again got overwhelmed by hope, that the institutionalized evil of slavery that accompanied the founding of our nation; the belief in the innate lesser worth of some people; was being destroyed by a nation of people who can now see beyond the color of someone's skin. The number of people voting in this election was the greatest ever in our history, and nearly all states that went to McCain were strongly contested in a close election, with Obama pulling in over 40% of the votes.
And wow, I'm so grateful that my cynicism about people was wrong, and that people are actually able to overcome what has so long been our worst failure of ethics.
Now, to work on seeing women as equal to men. A far harder task, but still possible, I think.
