Reading my friends' status lines on facebook is sort of like that. What's up with Oregon still not being in? By my count, Minnesota, Georgia, and Oregon would give the Democrats their 60 seats and a filibuster proof majority. Not going to happen, and I'd almost rather not see Lieberman in a position where he's the magical 60th vote, but I can dream.

It would be nice to think that, now that they have the presidency, an enlarged majority, and a fairly clear mandate, they might stop politely declining to call cloture votes on any item where they don't have 60 votes, but that's just crazy talk.

Two major, high population counties decided to stop counting as of midnight and resume on Wednesday. Unilaterally, I guess.

The Senatorial race got caught in that. It's very, very close, with only about 10,000 votes statewide separating them. My understanding is that it is those two counties which represent the bulk of the uncounted votes. If that is the case, the chances of Jeff Merkley unseating Gordon Smith are high.

ETA: I just found updated material that shows the race now at 48%-46%, rather than the 47/47 shown when I fell asleep last night. Smith is now in the lead, but they are still unwilling to call the race.

Sorry about that, Uth, it's just that I'm completely oblivious to the sexual proclivities of anyone but me and my partners, so I've never taken much interest in seeing that it's important. So you are quite correct-I didn't think of homosexuals as a sort of minority that needs protecting, and that's a fault on my part. People who want to control other people's sexuality is a real problem, for both heterosexuals and homosexuals. And more so for homosexual men, than even for homosexual women!

Now, I don't think that's going to go away before women get equality with men, but that's because I think the disparagement of homosexuals is deeply tied up in misogyny.
