And what the shit is going on in Georgia. Chambliss has the lead, but apparently he's pretty close to falling under the 50% mark, forcing a runoff.

That could be enough at least to force a runoff, then Obama can spend the next month in GA.

Reading my friends' status lines on facebook is sort of like that. Some of them confound me--that when Obama takes office, we will be a terrorist-friendly country, that they are going to quit their jobs and just have the wealth spread to them, that we'll be communists soon. And then there are the people who are one-issue, pro-life voters, but I actually have less of a problem with them, because they actually have a real issue they care about rather than Commies! Welfare queens! Terrorists!
RA and I talked about how fun Christmas is going to be with our extremely conservative family. We've decided to take our Obama/Biden magnet off our car before we travel, so we don't piss our families off and ruin Christmas. It makes me annoyed that we will be considerate, but we will still have to listen to Obama and Democrat bashing and it will be our fault for ruining the party if we put decide not to put up with it and leave.

This also reminds me why I dread the next time I have to talk to my Mom. Even if she manages to STFU about how Obama will destroy the country, she may crow about that stupid fucking Prop 8.

What's up with Oregon still not being in? By my count, Minnesota, Georgia, and Oregon would give the Democrats their 60 seats and a filibuster proof majority. Not going to happen, and I'd almost rather not see Lieberman in a position where he's the magical 60th vote, but I can dream.
It would be nice to think that, now that they have the presidency, an enlarged majority, and a fairly clear mandate, they might stop politely declining to call cloture votes on any item where they don't have 60 votes, but that's just crazy talk.

I love that they are independently wrong and they disagree. The last time a Democrat won the White House? Why that would be Warren G. Harding, Campbell!

Hey remember that nuclear option? I'll bet VP-elect Biden does.

My miniscule Hope for Change here is that the first time an existing same sex couple goes to court to preserve their rights as a pre-Prop-8 marriage, the public spectacle of married people being told, sorry, we just outlawed your marriage, will be so ugly that it will shame voters into doing the right thing next time around.

I'm not worried about Smith and Coleman atm, there's still counting to be done and the margins are really thin. Ted Stevens though. God damn. They're voting for his Palin-appointed successor.
Time to sell that frozen shitbox back to Russia.

No, no, no, Chuck.
It's where we allow whackjobs to go. First, encourage all those who think Palin and that crowd are the bee's knees go there to solidify their whack, THEN cut it loose or give it back to the Ruskies.

I'm going to reiterate my thought that Lieberman not being Magic 60 is a good thing, and I'm sending a letter to Harry Reid suggesting that he boot Lieberman's uncooperative ass out of all his committee positions.

Two major, high population counties decided to stop counting as of midnight and resume on Wednesday. Unilaterally, I guess.
The Senatorial race got caught in that. It's very, very close, with only about 10,000 votes statewide separating them. My understanding is that it is those two counties which represent the bulk of the uncounted votes. If that is the case, the chances of Jeff Merkley unseating Gordon Smith are high.
ETA: I just found updated material that shows the race now at 48%-46%, rather than the 47/47 shown when I fell asleep last night. Smith is now in the lead, but they are still unwilling to call the race.

Is that a mistranscription or was the question that vague? He hopes that Senator Hatch didn't say that, but he fears he might have?

Re: Election day 2008
Lol, yah, I had to read it three times and listen to the audio before I realized that there's actually a way that makes sense as a real English sentence. You just have to put ( ) around the "Senator Hatch said to me" part.

I know I get tired of hearing how good my clients at Legal Aid have it. They just call me up to ask whether they should buy caviar or prime rib with their food stamps. I don't know why any of us work.

Sorry about that, Uth, it's just that I'm completely oblivious to the sexual proclivities of anyone but me and my partners, so I've never taken much interest in seeing that it's important. So you are quite correct-I didn't think of homosexuals as a sort of minority that needs protecting, and that's a fault on my part. People who want to control other people's sexuality is a real problem, for both heterosexuals and homosexuals. And more so for homosexual men, than even for homosexual women!
Now, I don't think that's going to go away before women get equality with men, but that's because I think the disparagement of homosexuals is deeply tied up in misogyny.
