Angry The Cereal Thread

I could have sworn we already had one, but a search only turned up generic breakfast and snack threads. That's not good enough.

Chuck, wei, maddog, everyone else chatting about cereal the other day, how come none of you rat finks told me there was such a thing as chocolate Frosted Mini Wheats? That's pretty essential information you withheld there, especially since we were debating the comparative merits of Cocoa Puffs and Cocoa Pebbles. :glare:

I mean, look at this review.

Quote:
When I bite into them it feels like there are small pieces of chocolate in each cereal biscuit, which is possible since the ingredients include semisweet chocolate chips. And I’m not talking about fake-ass mockolate. I’m talking about the real shit with cocoa butter. By keeping it real, the cereal tastes like little slices of chocolate cake and that’s why I sing:
{snip unfortunate descent into Boyz II Men serenade}

Oatmeal. With syrup and cream.

If I'm lazy, I'll go with Honey-Nut Cheerios, particularly if there's any fresh fruit to add.

Chocolate cereal? I don't go for chocolate cereal. But I am curious as to why Count Chocula didn't rate.

I've never actually tried Count Chocula. My cereal preferences are very much bounded by what was in my grandmother's pantry when we stayed with her during summer vacations.

Honey Nut Cheerios are great, with milk or without. I appreciate a breakfast I can hold in the palm of my hand.

WHAT?! Chocolate frosted mini wheats? :faint: Must find.

I usually avoid cereal as I like a little more protein in the morning but I've always been a Cheerios with a sliced banana fan.

I haven't tried spelt flakes, although I do like spelt bread and pasta. My favorite hippie grain cereal is Amaranth flakes with almond milk. They stay so crispy and the flavors make beautiful music together.

Be careful if you try to find it in one of those second-hand discount grocery stores. Count Chalkula isn't the same thing. :nojustno:

If you like some chocolate in your cereal, you have got to try Kellogg's Special K Chocolatey Delight ~ crunchy rice & wheat flakes with chocolatey pieces. It is devine! :smitten:

Another of my favorites lately is Kellogg's Special K Fruit & Yogurt ~ crunchy rice & wheat flakes with oat & fruit clusters and yogurt-coated clusters.

Another is Post Honey Bunches of Oats with real :strawberry:s. The strawberries are teh awesome. :^^

I love the fruit and yogurt one too! Special K Red Berries is my favorite in that family of products, though.

I like rice and corn puffs, that's what is stocked in my pantry right now. I love dried fruit cereals, such as strawberries and mixed berries.

Growing up, my mom fed me Nix, Cheerios, Wheaties, and various honey-nut combination cereals.

I don't really eat cereal, except Scottish style oatmeal and Heritage O's, which are spelt, quinoa, kamut ® (®? Who the hell registers grain? Idiotic) oats, wheat, barley and millet.
They stay rock hard in milk up to an half an hour, which is good if you have to chase small, insane dwarves all morning.
They still make Count Chocula, Frankenberry and Boo-Berry? Who knew?

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is still delicious.

Oreo O's, however, taste like the damn box.

Don't eat cereal--not low-carb enough. In the evenings, however, for dessert, I'll make a porridge out of ground flaxseed, almond meal, roasted cacao nibs, pecans (or walnuts, or blackberries, or blueberries), sugar-free syrup (I like Almond Roca flavor), and boiling water. High fiber, very low carb, and tastes good.

Chocolate on cereal? Yuk. And none of those red fruits with cereal either. Bananas, yes; pears peaches nectarines OK.

I have to second the Special K with chocolate. I'll buy a box occasionally and have a cup for my chocolate fix in the evenings.

The evening is when I usually have it too. It makes for a great desert/evening chocolate fix, IMO. :eating:

I read this just before breakfast which reminded me to go down and eat my standard breakfast since I can't get the chef to make me cheese blintzes with sour cream and strawberry preserves of a morning.

Here's more than you want to know. And no it does not include chocolate in the cereal but I'm not opposed to eating it as the major base of my food pyramid.

I combine Quakers Natural Granola with Cascadian Farms Oats and Honey Granola. I toss in a small scoop of currants and mix them all up in a lovely clear plastic canister. Tis a fetching cereal display of a foggy groggy morning. I take one of my small cereal bowls, these are from Target if you've seen them. Black matt on the outside and aqua crazed glass on the inside and I love the look of them. Once in a while I ponder if the crazing will chip and I will end up eating ground glass but never mind that.

I take out one of those individual Breakstone 2% fat cottage cheeses that they sell in the little four packs. Breakstone. Only Breakstone. If Breakstone goes out of business I shall never eat cottage cheese again because the low fat versions of all the other ones I've tried are slimy slimy bottom of a slug slimy concoctions.

Where was I? Oh. I put the cottage cheese into the bowl. Put a scoop of the granola mixure on top. Splash in a little water. Very little. Stir it up and nuke it for 20 seconds. This brings the cottage cheese closer to room temp without making it hot. One should never accidently nuke it for 40 seconds as you DO NOT what to know how bad cottage cheese can get if it is cooked too long.

After eating this gruel, a pound of Godiva Truffles with my morning coffee would enhance my day no end if only I had the things in the cupboard. :sadcheer:

Honey Bunches of Oats FTW. Any of the varieties are good - strawberry, almond, or the ones with just the cluster thingies.

I tried the Special K with the chocolate. Okay, I guess, but the chocolate pieces tend to hide in the milk. And I find it's not just the bottom of the bowl; somehow the little buggers manage to go wherever the spoon is not. So you end up gorging on chocolate at the end. Chocolate lovers probably think this a feature rather than a bug, but I didn't really dig ending the cereal experience with a chocoglut.

Sometimes I get Smart Start when it's on sale, although it's got what seem like diamond-hard little bits in it. I never actually hurt myself eating it, but the uneven crunch is not optimal. If you have sensitive teeth, stay away from that stuff.
