Our chives are still growing, despite being cut back to almost the dirt several times and having 4 inches of snow cover them for a few days. They are growing in half of a pot that at most is six inches long, 4 inches deep, and 3 inches wide. Plus, yummy!

We have two pots that size, and we grew four kinds of herbs last summer. Chives and basil in one, parsley and oregano in the other. It worked out ok, as long as we remembered to water them. We could cut on them about every other week or so without worrying that there was too much deforestation!

Our spearmint is also chugging away in its pot after the winter, which is about the size of a large terra cotta pot.

Chives, basil, parsley and thyme are the herbs I get the most use out of. You could easily combine two or even three of them in one large pot, like you could get the crawling thyme that flops over the edge for the front of the pot, then flat-leaf parsley or basil in the back and chives in the middle.

I took the St. John's Wort out of my sleepy tea recipe but left the California poppy (both new additions) and I woke up feeling no more groggier than I would have after staying up too late watching Hulu. :smack:

I slept very well though and woke up with a smile on my face that has, so far, remained. :cheerful:
