OK, now I'm confused. Is this some sort of self-referential metajoke I don't get? I thought you were in favor of dog killing.

I'd love to donate to the canine euthanasia unit in your town, so that when your dogs get loose they'll have a chance of being offed.

Because I don't care. They're not my dogs. They're not in my town. They are just menacing others when they run loose without leashes. I'll bet she'll make some big deal about a couple of her useless dogs.

What the fuck is wrong with me is I care. I care about things which don't happen to be part of my immediate world. I care that careless people do stupid and thoughtless things that make it worse for everybody else.

You are now a clear member of those stupid and thoughtless people. You care only about yourself and your animals. Anything else is beneath you.

I'm just returning the favor. You don't care about things I do, so I guess l'll just refuse to give a shit about things you think important.

So...It's time to off all those extra dogs. Let's do it fast.

I also find that it's best to form opinions sheerly out of spite.

Hrm.. well, according to the world of godfry, anything besides myself and my animals is beneath me and therefore not worthy of my concern and since you're not myself nor one of my animals, just what would make you think that I would give a rat's ass (and yes, Watser?, rats do too have asses :narrow:) about what you do or don't give a shit about? Hello? :doh-sign:

Hey, Shallow...

Tomorrow, I'm going to check in with the Humane Society and the county Animal Control and see if they are looking for donations to expand their canine euthanasia units...If they are, can I make a donation in your honor?

Shelli does your county have some kind of donor-funded Bladerunner-type animal control system?

Because that sounds pretty badass.

Well, we do have some roadside trash problems here. In fact, our MBA 510 class (Team Building and Ethical Leadership) took its service project as a roadside cleanup in North Bend, WA. North Bend is a small town on the west side of the Cascades. Originally the town was known for tall timber, rednecks, and truckers. Now, they've added some Microsoft money to the equation and it is changing the town.

Anyhow, we had 40 people picking up trash for almost a whole day, and we barely touched the surface of it. It wasn't just cans and bottles, it was shotgun shells, an old couch, chain-link fence, engine blocks, lots of broken clay skeets, and cardboard boxes of clothing that people dump.

Probably the worst part of it was the "trucker's orange juice". Long-haul truckers are reluctant to stop and use the bathroom at a truck stop because it can cut into their driving time and make them late for deliveries. Instead, while driving they just urinate into 32-oz or 64-oz soda bottles. They put the lid on it, and toss it out the window in some rural part of the road. Over time it changes color to a dark orange. We had 30 or 40 of those to clean up in mile or two stretch of road.

We also had similar problems back home in Virginia and West Virginia, mostly pop bottles and soda/beer cans. But the nickel deposit program solved most of that.

Well that answers that. I've often seen coke bottles filled with yellow liquid on the side of the road and wondered how long the coke has been sitting there to turn that colour. Colour me stupid.

In other news the thread got real interesting.

That's a curious thing to do, considering most truckers' end points and way stations along their routes. Dumpsters and trash cans are major items of decor at such places, as are restrooms. It shouldn't be necessary to fling it into the verge. It seems a real fuckheaded thing to do.

For that matter, it'd be 'greener' all 'round if they'd just empty the bottle on the verge. That'd fertilize the grass, and weeds. It's the plastic soda bottle that's a pisser, not the urine in it.

I'll bet they don't have that in Indiana. Indiana is absofuckinlutely pristine. I bet truckers hold it all the way across.

I think they're just more motivated to stop at the truck stops because they know the quality of cum-garglers in Indiana is the best in the country. Not necessarily in talent, but enthusiam.

How curious. What could possibly motivate these fellows who are on the road for days at a time, who generally get paid by the mile rather than by the hour, and whose vehicles are slow and expensive to accelerate, to avoid extra stops however they can? What could their incentives be? It's a real head scratcher.

You know what I bet would change their behavior, though? A quarter deposit on those plastic bottles, because that would totally justify the extra time and expense of stopping to them. And, if not, at least it would encourage children to walk up and down the interstate looking for bottles to hand in for deposit.

Maybe. Or maybe, like I said, there are existing programs in place that do an adequate cleanup job?
