Law Supreme Court Bobbleheads at the Yale Law Library

I don't mean in person. I mean in actual bobblehead form.

Awesome"The bobbleheads are, not to overstate it, a little bit more than toys," said Ross E. Davies, the editor in chief of The Green Bag, which calls itself "an entertaining journal of law" and created the dolls. "They’re portrayals of the work and character of these judges."

The bobblehead of Justice David H. Souter, for instance, wears heavy gold jewelry and sits on a lifeguard stand, reminders of his opinions in a copyright case involving the rap group 2 Live Crew and a sexual harassment case brought by a female lifeguard. In a second copyright case, Justice Souter referred to "the latest release by Modest Mouse"; his bobblehead plays a snippet of a song by the band.

The Green Bag only makes 1,000 - 2,000 of each bobblehead, then they distribute them at will to whomever with no particular rhyme or reason. Obviously this makes the bobbleheads immensely collectible, especially the rare one-off pieces like a Scalia with references to his majority decisions. The more common Scalia references his dissents.

Lawyer types, can you identify the references on the O'Connor and Brandeis dolls from the group pic? What's with the cow by Sandra and the adorable wee train Brandeis is driving?

The Yale law library seems like an awesome place, incidentally, even setting aside the bobbleheads. It's got a huge collection of rare books and next month they're putting on an exhibit about the lawyer in comic books.

My Goog confidential informants tell me that SDO grew up on a farm, and that LB was involved in an extended legal tiff concerning the New Haven Railroad something something. So maybe that's it?

You are (almost fully) correct, sir! Turns out The Green Bag offers a list of the annotated bobblehead justices. The Brandeis train refers to 1938's Erie Railroad v. Tomkins decision.

Because I created it solely to prevent correspondence chess eruptions in chat. How was I to know it would take on a far wider significance in the forum vernacular?

I'm just trying to understand. Could you explain where you think I'm wrong? I'm just wondering what other people think.
