I'd buy that if Kael was a noob. He's not.

Re: LotR Mafia - Game Thread
Sorry you're not feeling well, Mega.
A little meta talk about Nightson's supposed breadcrumb, and breadcrumbs in general. I have questions. If you saw it, and expected Kael to see it and not point it out, how in the hell are scum supposed to not see it and act on it, especially when they are better informed?
My impression of breadcrumbs is that it is not supposed to be noticed or understood by anybody but the one who posted it, and the idea is that days later they can point to it and say "see, this is why I said X on day Y." If you understood it, and expected Kael to, how is it a breadcrumb? How are scum supposed to not notice until someone points it out?

Yeah that. I don't see the big deal, tbh. Not everybody plays the game with strategy templates burned into their retinas.

You may want to reconsider your suspicions, Sauratron.

Ok, I know this is old now, but I missed a lot last night.
When I first read this post my gut reaction was exactly what Mega wrote below:

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but damned if that doesn't look like a newbscum slip.

vote: Demimonde

And when Nightson voted for him without explanation in the next post, I thought 'Not surprising, I might have done the same' (except I probably would have posted an explanation like Mega did).
Re-reading it again and again, it doesn't seem as bad as it originally felt, but it definitely immediately pinged my scumdar too.

I realize this post is, like, way old comparatively speaking, but I couldn't help wondering about it all night.
Gandalf getting the ring and becoming the new Lord of Middle Earth might not end up very good for us poor hobbits, but I hear Lord of Middle Earth is a pretty cushy job. Basically, I see no reason why, if the Nazgul gain extra power when they wield the ring, power roles and even hobbits wouldn't. I hear it makes you invisible, after all. Adam has already stated that acquiring the ring does NOT win the game for the Nazgul, which implies the win conditions are probably the more typical 'kill most of the town' and the ring is a fun bit of extra power-play.
All this rambling is moot, of course, if Nightson speaks from having more information than this humble hobbit. Which he would if he were a power role himself. Or if he were scum. Obviously if he's a power role we don't want him outing himself yet or those wicked Nazgul will off him for sure, but to my untrained eye he's looking pretty suspicious right now.
My mayoral vote is still on Demi, but I'm going to go ahead and throw in my lynch vote.
Vote: Nightson
|
Again, I read this and had the same thought as bey and somewhat the same as Mega (though not as strong). I don't see why it would ever be a good thing to point out that you've seen something that points to someone being a special.

Well I think you're forgetting that he might just not have thought about it before saying it. I know he's not a noob, but I don't think Kael has played tons of games either. I know I've done it in the past as well, pointed out something that really would have been better kept quiet.
And as to the whole breadcrumbs issue, some things don't have to be left intentionally by the poster. Some things that point to someone being a special can be totally unintentional.

Re: LotR Mafia - Game Thread
Oh I agree that it's a bad move to point out that someone could be a special because they said such-and-such. But my question was does that necessarily make him scum or just someone we'd want to lynch cuz we're pissed about the move or whatever. I think the latter is at least as likely as the former.

It looked like one to me. Note that the first thing I said about it was that it wasn't subtle enough.
Hell, the first thing that went through my mind when I saw Nightson's post was "FUCK, dude, TOO OBVIOUS!!" ...but the last damn thing I was going to do is post about it and draw even more attention to it.

There is when you mention it and then spin it to say he's actually scum and vote for him, which is what Kael did.
I think it wouldn't be a very smart move, given someone like bey, Mega or Nightson are going to do just what bey and Mega did, call you out on it.... but then posting it at all isn't a very smart move in my opinion, so what I don't know what to think of it. Except

I dont think that scum would make kaels post. It is either poor town play or traitor play. If a traitor saw the breadcrumb he would want to point it out to the scum.

Well, I wake up to find myself something akin to the center of attention.
Quote:
You are a simple hobbit, this game's version of a vanilla townie. You have no special powers, beyond the ability to carry the One Ring without immediately succumbing to its temptations. You win when all threats are eliminated and a hobbit possesses the Ring.

This is where my information regarding rings arises from. To me it says that someone not a hobbit will get corrupted by it, now it's probably not

Re: LotR Mafia - Game Thread
I am most suspicious with bey's hostility for Kael over "broadcasting" his suspicions of Nightson. Who are you, the FCC? The defense was sudden and intense. If Nightson is exposed as a "power role" he will have done something to hint towards it. Kael merely pointed out that he assumes NS has a special role. If Nightson has done something to expose that, it's his fault. If Kael wants more information about his theory, he should be allowed to pry for it. Nightson's dismissal of conversation was a bold move and should alert attention at least. Whether he is scum or not is up in the air. It is Day 1 and this is only a matter of opinion. A good town should analyze opinions critically. I like Kael's input on this.
I would like to see more for NS before I would make the move to vote for him. Bey I think you need to back off on Kael and wait a bit to see Nightson's response. I am also annoyed by vote posts made with no content or reasoning attached. Most specifically Megatron's "Holy Shit!' post.
It's not like Nightson has even given a positive or negative replyon the subject. No matter what at this point in the game he will deny it and there are no blatant hints to anything yet. In fact it looks as though he is choosing to ignore it. If Kael is right, there is much more a chance Nightson is scum, see?
Don't act like Kael's the first to ever try to expose another player. Any one who is freaking out is either protecting Nightson from something or are unaware that you can discuss the possibility of a special role without the player ever giving themselves away.
I think slim is jumping on the "KILL KAEL HE SPOKE!" wagon.
Too much censorship itt.
Quote:

So if it's so damn obvious, what's there to get crazy about? Nightson's posts aren't going to go ignored just because he is new to playing along side us.
Plus you are voting for Kael at the same time as treating him as a townie who has done wrong. If you don not think he is scum and you don't have ANY proof, retreat your vote.
In the meantime, I will ask for silent players to speak up. Especially Chris Porter and fragment.

Vote: Kael. Could be bad town play, but more likely a nazgul trying to avoid being quiet.

Re: LotR Mafia - Game Thread
Regardless he was only acting in response to Nightson. If Kael didn't point that out, I probalay would have. You admit it was obvious, don't all of you?
At least obvious that there could be a correlation betweening fearing a role reveal and having a special role?
NS is not obligated to say what it is, so it could be town or scum. We, however, are obligated to test Kael's theory by paying close attention to Nightson's words and actions. I do not believe he is undermining the town with an assumption.
Anyway I am not Kael's lawyer. I just think we are getting ourselves off tract.
Most importantly, IN ONE VOTE Demi could be mayor and I don't believe she has voted for herself yet.
