Default Around the World in 80 Dishes

Epicurious.com has been running a series of how-to videos covering various dishes from around the world. Each dish is broken up into a set of two to four videos depending on the complexity of the dish and presented by one of the top chefs of the Culinary Institute of America. Currently they have 61 dishes from Argentina (Churrasco con Chimichurri) to the United Kindgom (Spotted Dick).

Around the World in 80 Dishes: Cuisines at Epicurious.com

Enjoy.

Israeli falafel... :sadno:

Nasi goreng is a staple food here, ethnic Chinese from Indonesia came back with the Dutch troops and opened the first wave of foreign restaurants here.

I have a bobotie recipe too, someone who lived in South Africa gave it to me long ago.
And fuul medammas is one of my favourites too.

I protest!1 Turkish baklava is my favorite because it's made with pistachios instead of the walnuts Greeks use. THAT IS NOT TURKISH BAKLAVA BEING MADE ON THAT VIDEO.

Related anecdote: There's a little Greek bakery I go to once a year when my parents are in town to indulge in the greatest macaroons of all time (OF ALL TIME). Once I asked them if they made their baklava with pistachios or walnuts and the grumpy Greek pastry chef got even grumpier than usual, hissing out a harsh "walnuts[, you fucking cunt]." Greeks don't like being conflated with Turks even just over baklava. Hell, especially over baklava.

I love a good bobotie. They're actually easy to make.

I've been fortunate enough to have a great bobotie in South Africa and even more fortunate to have access to a South African grocer here in Atlanta. We go on a shopping spree there about every other month and come back with lots of Mrs. Balls Chutneys, Rooibos, Youngberry Jam and other goodies. Yummy.

And I know this is juvenile, but we can also get these at the South African grocer.

I love El Salvadorean Puspusas, there used to be a place here that made them.

There are better Indonesian dishes that Gado-gado. It's pretty popular there, so I see why they included it.

Ahhh... Pupusas and Curtido. They're one of my Significant Other's favorites. He likes to make his pupusas with cheese.

Now if Epicurious.com would only do a video on Plokkfiskur or Skyr... It would make me happy.

I think they are too busy picking out which flannel shirt to wear and could care less about falafel.

There was a little deli in Knoxville owned by Israelis that served baklava. I don't remember what sort of nut they used, but it was tasty.

Great link, mulebear. Now I'm hungry, and have to count the number of dishes I've had.

I think I'm going to attempt the pierogis soon. Nom.
