... it has been a few hundred poasts since my last confession.*
I made Tom Ka Gai soup with almost entirely prefabbed ingredients. I even forgot to pick up any damned mushrooms or ginger, so I threw in a jarful of babby corn instead of what was supposed to be in there. In my defense, it was COLD AS FUCK yesterday evening and I was damned if I was going back out to get proper produce.
I paid instant penance the last time I attempted this heinous crime, because I used salty chicken broth and it came out damned nearly inedible. But this time, I used low-sodium chicken broth and ate with impunity. It was, in fact, delicious. The worst part of my filthy iniquity is I am emboldened to do it all over again.
I further compounded by crimes against humanity by adding Chinese rice noodles. That's right, noodles in Tom Ka Gai. I figured why not, I'm going to Hell already.
I used:
1 pouch of Taste of Thai pseudo-Tom Ka paste stuff
1 can (THAT'S RIGHT A CAN! I'M SO ASHAMED!) low-sodium chicken broth
1 can coconut milk
1 jar whole babby corn (think of the children!)
2 breasts boneless skinless chicken, sliced into thin strips
1/2 white onion, sliced (recipes differ on what type of onion to use, so on your green onions)
2 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
1 handful or so of dry rice noodles, soaked 1/2 hour in warm water
a few shakes of garlic/pepper sauce to taste
and the final insult:
cilantro leaves for garnish
Not counting the noodle-soaking, this took me prolly a half hour. It turned out so rich, so creamy, so orgasmically good. Sure, I will do it right next time, with proper mushrooms, maybe even lemon grass and chopped fresh ginger. If I'm feeling particularly guilty, I might even forego the prefabbed seasoning paste for actual cooking -- although I draw the line at making my own fish sauce. I'm not a superhuman or a livius or something.
Got a filthy cooking confession to make?
*I also must confess that I was too damned lazy to search for the last time I confessed.

No act of contrition necessary for the canned low sodium chicken broth. I use Swanson's myself when I don't have fresh and it's kind of awesome, I can't lie. Twenty Hail Mary's and a week of wearing one of those pointy thigh straps like the albino killer monk wore in The Da Vinci Code for the noodles and cilantro, though.
Through the ministry of the Food forum may I give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your culinary sins in the name of the Me, Me, and of the Holy Me.
Damn, I'm on board with pointy thigh straps (in fact, done and done!), but I just can't throw a football that far to save my life.

Not that kind of crime, but I made a soup on Monday that was so yummy it should be illegal. Cream of Mushroom with Brie, adapted freely from a recipe I found online.
I used:
half a pound of cremini mushrooms
half a pound of button mushrooms
one medium shallot
one cup of beef stock
one and a half cups of heavy cream
a roux with mushroom powder added
4 oz of brie in small pieces
YUMMY. I'm going to have some leftovers for dinner tonight.

I've tried that one before. It tastes a bit weird to me, I'm not sure why. Maybe I've become addicted to the flavor of cruelty.

Swanson's is the best. I hate to say it, but even CI agrees and I can't go against both my taste buds and CI. HOW COULD I POSSIBLY DO THAT, VICIOUSMAMMRIES?
