Does not compute.

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
This is the land of beer'o'plenty, but I still miss certain brews - Fat Tire, Sam Adams seasonals (summer and winter in particular, also Octoberfest), Leinie's summer shandy (their Oktoberfest is even better than Sam Adams), and Magic Hat summer beer.
ed: Mulebear, Fort Collins Brewery has a chocolate stout that's quite good. Not overpoweringly chocolate, but it hits a nice note.

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
Last week I made the Sam Adams woman cry because she ONLY offered for tasting their "Pilsner"-- --and their "Cherry Beer"--
Oh, their darker beers? Their seasonal? Their actual, you know, beers were just for "show."
"I will stick with the Dogfish--they sell beer."

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
Cherry beer? Damn, that sounds good.
Doc, try the Summer and the Winter. The spring one (white ale, I think?) is also pretty good.

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
Belgians (of course) make some good cherry beer:
And it's a Lambiek beer, just like Gueuze, which means that no yeast is added. The fermentation is spontaneous from yeast that occurs naturally.

No, no, I enjoy the Winter Ale. My point was she did not offer that or the real beers for tasting, she offered the "popular shit"--weak Pilsner, "Cherry beer"--crap like that.

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
 for Doc.
I've had a really good raspberry lambic - it had a pry-off cap and a cork.

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
For your standard Pilsner, Grolsch is the only way to go. Heineken is almost as bad as Bud. Not quite. But close.

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
Heineken is horrible, why do you think we export it?
Brand is a very good Dutch Pilsner too, Hertog Jan as well.

Berry Weiss isn't always bad. I like Leinenkugel's BW. The secret is to throw one into a mixed six pack and drink it before moving on to the real beer.

alas it WAS leinie's!
my son suggested it (as it was the summer of "let's try different beers"
while watching the brewers fade further and further from the pennant),
he saying to me "some of my friends like this" and after i tried it i asked
"who the hell are these friends?" and it turns out they are the underaged
grandchildren who are pilfering GRANDMA's beer, which i suppose, being
berry flavored, seems akin to a wine cooler or somesuch
yea, i made him drink that shit til it was just a bad memory...
i pretty much decided i dont want fruity beer... i very well
could be missing out on fabulous beer, but i take a pass

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
1. Amber ales
2. Darker ales
Yeah, I like ales. Best I ever had was "Devil Mountain 5-Malt Ale," which apparently no longer exists. The local one I drink is St. Arnold Amber Ale. When I go back to California, since Devil Mtn. is gone (I repeat: ), I always pick up Drake's Amber. They wrap their bottles in cellophane or something, for some damned reason. But I don't complain because it's soooo damned good.
I also like heavier stuff like porters and Guiness, but I'm more of a lush now, so I don't want to fill up prematurely.

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
Nah, I agree with Wastser? Guiness is a bit weak for me. Unless you accidentally buy it in Indonesia, where it's been aging in the sun for an undetermined number of years. Then it tastes like coal tar.
A lot of the beers sold in green bottles are negatively effected by ultra-violet light and taste like licking a skunk.
Don't tell Lees!

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
I knew someone from Austria studying in the US who ordered "a Pilsner" at the local bar. He was, of course, given a Buttwipper.
He got mad. He thought they were "playing a joke on the 'furiner.'" Nearly started a fight denouncing their beer, their lack of hospitality, et cetera.

Re: Beer Lovers Unite
You know I think that people sometimes fail to consider that beer pairs itself with certain foods.
For example, Lambics and dark ales go really well with chocolate.
