Re: Gunman opens fire on office of Democratic lawmaker
Yeah, they haven't decided that it WAS a BB gun at this point, but sure, act like the article said that it was definitely a BB gun.
And also ignore the fact that even if it was a BB gun, it's not like any Congress members have actually been shot lately, so surely it's over the top to react as if there was a possibility of real danger.
Asshole.

Remember when that woman had a B carved into her face by an Obama supporter during the campaign?

No, I don't remember. But every case of any letters carved into any part of anyone's body (somehow they are usually women) I've ever heard of has always turned out to be fake and self-inflicted. So excuse me if I am a bit sceptical about this one too.

Re: Gunman opens fire on office of Democratic lawmaker
It was fake. The idiot carved a 'B' into her own face while looking into a mirror, which yielded the exact result one would expect, then called the police and told a vague story about an assailant she was only able to describe as 'black' having done it.
I think JEROME's point is that this is probably exactly the same thing. Dude probably fired shots through his own window, and then filed a police report saying that he didn't get a good look at the shooter, but he sure looked Republican.

Black, eh? I've heard of several (European) cases where skinheads were supposed to have carved swastikas in people's arms, legs, chests or wherever. Seems to be the default here: skinheads did it!

Yes, and there were lots of problems with her story, and the fact that she did the B backwards...
We don't know who did it, or if it was with a BB gun or not, but there's no reason to think the Congressman did it to his own office.

Did they catch the 'Gunman' or was it just some 'Kid' with a BB gun shoting at birds in the trees?

I would suspect the last place a mass murderer would go to preform a mass killing would be a place full people with guns.

Re: Gunman opens fire on office of Democratic lawmaker
What makes you think that?
It's usually just an elaborate way to kill themselves anyway.
Besides, if all of those other gun nuts also open fire they will get an even bigger bloodbath than they could ever hope for if they are the only ones shooting.

If Utoya was armed that gunman would not have gone to that island.
Fewer people would have died if he had and they were.
... plus, that gunman gave up after the men with guns arrived, he obviously didn't desire death.

Hahaha, yeah, you picked the one exception in a hundred years of mass killings...
It is a ridiculous argument in the best of circumstances. It is a completely ludicrous argument here. Wtf is the point of a metal detector if every loon with a gun can get in there anyway?

Re: Gunman opens fire on office of Democratic lawmaker
This is somewhat irrelevant to the news story, as Rep. Green's office was not in the Texas Capitol Building (it was in Houston, after all).
However, it's ludicrous to say that allowing concealed carry guns into the Capitol is going to make it safer because now potential shooters will know there are armed people inside. I suppose the Texas Capitol Building doesn't have armed security
No, instead they need to encourage armed citizens to visit the Capitol area, because letting any potential shooters enter unimpeded just in case some citizen gun-owner might save them, as opposed to the trained professionals already there is the sensible security plan.
I suppose Obama should abandon his Secret Service detail and just recommend that everyone coming to his rallies bring guns, that'll make him safer, right?

We're trying to have a civilization here. The one place that you could expect anyone but the most fanatic gun nut or Somali lolbertarian to agree should be free of guns is a building where elected representatives meet.

No, no. In the mental historical diorama that animates the conservative's grasp of American history and fundamental principles, the Declaration of Constitution and Amendments to Independence is being written by Davy Crockett at a rough-hewn table in a frontier cabin by candlelight, with the pink tip of his tongue sticking out the corner of his mouth as he struggles to spell 'Jesus' correctly; and his rifle is damn well at his side, and Jim Bridger's got his, too, over there in the corner; and Wild Bill Hickock is getting ready to shoot his signature onto the bottom of the parchment. If it was good enough for the Fondling Fathers, it's good enough for today's America too!

Elected representatives are not a special protected class of citizen, at least they are not in a free society.

Dunno about the vikings, but Roman emperors used the title for themselves so that everyone could happily pretend that the system wasn't actually a monarchy.
