On a happy note, looks like dog racing has finally been banned in MA.
Then where will you get your next greyhound?

What the hell happened to California?
People seem to keep confusing the fact that CA is all-but-permanently Blue in Presidential races for not being a conservative State.* It was a known problem that the surge of black and latino voters for Obama was also going to bring with it black and latino family values, which tend to lean anti-gay marriage.
The anti-8 supporters made some strategic errors as well. They should have taken the softly-softly approach.
*By way of comparison, note that supposedly swing-state PA is showing as 55-44 Obama/McCain whilst CA currently shows as 56-42. The difference is that PA's voters tend to be moderates, whilst CA's tend to be polarised.

Nine electoral votes to President-Elect Obama, and this from a state that voted for Bob Fucking Dole, for Christ's sake.
A so-so Democrat named Mark Udall kicked the everluvin' shit of the monstrously evil Sweatshop Bob Shaffer in the U.S. Senate race.
We the People of the Second Congressional District are sending a bona fide left winger and real live gay homosexual to the U.S. House of Representatives.
In CD4, right wing lunatic Marilyn Musgrave lost to Democrat Betsy Markey in what had to be the ugliest congressional campaign in the country.
Dems got reelected in CD1, 3, and 7.
It's looking very much like the people of HD33 are going to give Dianne Primavera, the best goddamn state legislator on the planet, a well-deserved second term.
The horrifically misnamed "right to work" amendment is losing.
The eggmendment, which would have turned Colorado's state court system into a playground for Christian right frivolous litigation boutiques, got slaughtered.
There's bad news as well on the ballot initiative front, but all in all it's a damn fine night.

I was watching that one, I'm glad it got shot down.
Sadly, with 20% of the precincts reporting, Prop h8te in CA is currently passing by a 9 point margin.
It's now down to a 6 point margin with 25% of the precincts reporting. While I am steeled for a loss, the fact of Californian elections has always been that the rural areas with a hundred people for a thousand square miles always report first, and this is where the Yes on 8 crowd is likely to be found. The bulk of the population lives in the urban areas, and these will be the last to report. We "No on 8" folks just might squeak by.

It would be my strong preference that the whole dog racing industry be completely put out of business, despite the effect this would have on my future ability to adopt another greyhound.
It's OK, I would just find something else to love from my local animal shelter.

I hope the people of California chose to protect marriage by ensuring that Proposition 8 is rejected as it should be. The best way to protect and ensure that marriage continues to prosper is by ensuring that same sex couples have their right to marry recognized by the people.

Under no circumstances should Quentin Tarantino be allowed to befoul Star Trek.

What is it about the industry that makes it onerous?

What effect, if any, will that have on coursing clubs?
