Perhaps they should develop color-shifting paint that would change colors as one approached it, each shade more visible than the previous.
As for the solar gain of cars, I bet the big old greenhouse most of them have called windows are probably far more responsible for more increased air conditioning energy requirements than the color of the paint. I bet dark colored interiors have more effect than the painted surfaces on the outside. I think this is one for Mythbusters to test.
If it's true, then all cars should be white, or chrome, or shiny metal. Maybe Delorean was onto something.
