Fondant or not?

So I'm ordering my wedding cake, and I can't decide between icing or fondant.

My mom is pushing for the fondant because she says it looks super classy.

However, I've heard that it can be a bitch to cut, and annoyingly chewy to eat.

Anybody have experience cutting or eating a fondant? How bad is it, really?
