Hard to believe this thrad is 1043 days old.
I am going to see Evita on Tuesday night, so I was listening to the Original American recording, the one with Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin. That led me to review this thread. I know the words the cast will be singing, but pretty sure I'll be hearing

Re: FF and I are going into counseling.
Picture this. You're on foot, through the desert, the unbearable heat, the flies, windblown sand in your mouth. Something flashes a dull white on up ahead. What is that? Curious, you walk past a barricade of tumbleweed, and there, in your path... it's the tortoise. It's gotten turned over. It's on its back and unable to right itself. You look down at the creature, helpless, exhausted, but you're not helping. The turtle returns your gaze, exasperated, a mixture of fear and anger. He pleads. Why aren't you helping me? But you're still not helping.
You turn your gaze out across the plain, over the scattered creosote, past the vigilant Joshua trees, out toward the stony mountains. Finally, after a long moment, you answer, your voice abrupt, punctuating the empty silence... "Haldemann". The turtle groans. The End.
Hope this helps. I think it really gets to the heart of the matter.

Alternate Ending (but only for Crumb)
Now the tortoise was pissed, really blood boiling, red seeing, yelling in your natural face pissed. "Haldemann! You think I knew anything about Haldemann!!?? Fuck you! I wasn't even running interference on that one! Get out, go, just go. You're such an ass."
What? Didn't know? But what about the letter from Deep Throat? Deep Throat! He was playing both ends. Son of a bitch! Now it make sense. You know what you have to do.
The tortoise is silent now, motionless, no expression. He's given up, too empty and beaten to care. He startles with a terrified jerk as you approach, legs snapping skyward, then retracting. There is nothing to say, so you bend down, grasping one side... Christ, who a knew a Tortoise was this heavy?.. and then he's over. The End.

If you liked HELP THE FUCKING TORTOISE! by SR71, you may also like Tomb of Draecana by Ymir's Blood and Murdering time! by Brimshack.

So how was it?
I hear they're working on a Broadway revival now with an Argentinian lady I've never heard of as Eva and Ricky Martin as Che. Yup. Ricky Martin. As ludicrous a notion as it seems that Ricky could ever step into Mandy's shoes, I hope he pulls it off. I have a soft spot in my heart for him.

P.S. I think it's high time we compiled the songbook, n'est-ce pas? We could probably stage a half dozen musicals with all the parodies we've written over years.

It was so-so; strong Eva and Juan, really damn annoying Che. He was one one of those when-I-can't-go-high-I-will-go-loud tenors. Also the mistress was excellent and probably got the biggest applause of the night. They mostly adopted the traditional staging with a fairly minimalist set. It worked pretty well, and would have worked better with a larger chorus. The only thing that I really didn't like was this odd thing where they projected archival photographs and footage at the on a screen at the top of the stage, which turned out to be distracting.
And I had never seen the staging for "The Art of the Possible" with military officials engaged in a game of musical chairs with rhythmic rocking chairs. It was very well done.

I heard about that. I like the idea, and hope he has the pipes for it. Mandy set the bar pretty high way back then.

During the whole show? I remember seeing the original Broadway production and they only projected archival images on the screen during the film scene in the beginning and during her radio broadcast/funeral at the end.

Loved that. I asked my mom if it was true that politics was like musical chairs and she was all "Yup."
Seeing Evita with Patti and Mandy when I was seven is one of my earliest complex, detailed memories. For years after that I insisted that I wanted to be an actress on Broadway when I grew up so I could be as awesome as Patti and make Mandy fall in love with me.

Eyes, hair, mouth, figure,
Dress, voice, style, movement
Hands, magic, rings, glamour
Face, diamonds, excitement, image!
Having said that, I'm not sure if I can find them all.

Not all the time, but a lot more than that. In addition to those, it was at least during the funeral at the beginning, Rainbow High/Tour), And the Money Kept Rolling In, and maybe a couple of other places. I assumed it was just going to be the film and the montage.
