I blew through like 90% of it last night (thank you, cold that prevents me from doing anything more exciting than sitting on the couch with a book!), and I think I like it. It would make a great movie. Even Coupland's use of my all time least favorite writer's gimmick, inserting himself into the story as a character, didn't wreck it for me. I don't understand what compels any author to think this is ever a good idea. Yes, I get how painfully clever it is that it's the author himself who performs all the
deus ex machinas in the story. I don't care. It's cutesy, it's groin-grabbingly self-aware, not to mention self-indulgent, and it sucks.
I'm not actually familiar with any of Coupland's other novels. Anyone have any idea if they're any good?
