Cash contribution are only deductible up to 50% of adjusted gross income.
The responsible thing to do would be to pay his fair share of taxes first, and then donate.
Obama has given the example of not accepting a $5 million charitable donation.

I am most excited that different minds now get to create from a favored story.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
As per usual, Bob Chapman of the Escapist is able to put into big boy cogent word formations what I hold in my touchy-feely foggy innard brain. Maybe not a be-all end-all on the matter, but a good summation of why I think it's a good thing and the sad nostalgia I feel about it happening. Namely, that Disney right now is red hot with managing properties and turning out some awesome entertainment but it feels weird that Lucasfilm, one of the most independent studios out there sold out to the largest entertainment conglomerate in the industry.
And if you like entertainment, movie reviews and general gabbery on a variety of things that may or may not relate to the entertainment industry you should be watching Bob's movie reviews and his Big Picture vlog.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Oh, look who's directing:
J.J. Abrams -- Star Wars director | Inside Movies | EW.com
On one hand, this is probably the best possible choice they could have made next to Peter Jackson (Joss Whedon and Neill Blomkamp would also have been acceptable answers). On the other hand, Star Trek and Star Wars in the same hands? There will be nerd rage.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Meh. I thought Abrams' "Star Trek" was more like Star Wars with Trek characters than "real" Star Trek anyway.
Fun to watch? Yes. Star Trek? No.
It would be nice to see a good Star Wars movie again, though.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Harrison Ford will reportedly return as Han Solo in Star Wars Episode VII.
Who thinks Disney will draw on the extant expanded Universe material and characters (I know very little about it but know it exists), and who thinks they'll make it up from scratch?

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Lawrence Kasdan, who is involved with Episode VII, has stated that he won't be drawing from the EU.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
The involvement of Lawrence Kasdan is definitely a good sign.
Presumably, Luke, Leia and Han won't be the main characters this time around. I hope that Luke and Leia are in it, though. I know that some people didn't like the character of Luke because he was too "bland" -- and let's face it, he was pretty whiny in the original Star Wars. But seeing Luke mature from a whiny nobody in the first movie to a fairly confident and (reasonably) competent Jedi in Return of the Jedi really worked for me. I'd like to see him as having matured into a calm, confident and powerful Jedi Master -- without the arrogance, short-sightedness, and narrow-mindedness of the Jedi Masters in the prequels.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
It's an interesting setting to work with. I hope they do well. SW was my favorite sci-fi franchise until B5 came along. Then the prequels knocked it even further down. The last three films may have knocked people's expectations down low enough that Disney has some room to experiment and find a good 'voice.' The worst thing they could do* would probably be to try and recreate the original trilogy rather than make something new.
A Boba Fett film might be interesting, however his major cool factor for me was always the armor. It's not like he was really given much personality, so a work centering on him could be a big IF, depending on the route they take. I hope they do something about the Sarlacc thing, that really sucked.
*Worst, excluding going off on some weird tangent or involving Lucas.

While I'd normally think it's a cop-out, I would be perfectly happy if they made Ep 1-3 into some sort of fever dream.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Disney appoints a group to determine a new, official Star Wars canon
Quote:
The Expanded Universe as we knew it will soon be no more. Disney has created a special committee whose job it will be to figure out what is and isn't part of a complete Star Wars canon — meaning all the EU material created over the years will be judged, and either become official or deemed invalid.
Furthermore, this means at some point all new Star Wars spin-offs will matter, because they will all be official. I don't know how I feel about that.

Behold! The cast for the impending Star Wars VII: The Flaring Lens
That TMS link has a click through gallery of the new names attached to the project. Thanks to all the racial and misandric leanings of my liberal and progressive communist socialist fascist friends, I notice there aren't very many POC or women listed. What enthusiasm I held for this is lessened a little bit by this news.

I am excited! Smart move to take it 30 years into the future to allow the familiar characters to move the story to its next phase.
