here . I am not entirely surprised by their reaction. I do hope that they do not gain political traction. One nation on this continent has already fallen to their grip. I would hope that Canada is able to resist them better. I do agree with the raising of the age of consent, though. It should be raised to 18 instead.
What I wonder about is how they seek to reverse the marriage decision. While I am not surprised with the backlash, it will be nearly impossible to put the genie back in the bottle. Gay people growing up in Canada now know that marriage is possibility for them if they find love. They will fight tooth and nail to protect their hard fought recognition of the their rights to marry those they love.
This isn't the same issue as abortion. The ethics of abortion are at least arguable. There is no argument that can be made to deny the right of two consenting adults the right of marriage.
Upon reading further into the article one interesting thing was noticed by me. It seems the religiously conservative base is proportionally smaller in Canada than it is in the US. Their movement may not have the kind of traction that it does here. While I do support their right to have their voices heard and their views known, I do hope they fail on the issue of gay marriage.
