The Dutch plan to legalise sex in public park

Paul van Grieken, an Alderman in the Oud-Zuid district of the city, has startled many Amsterdammers, despite their famously liberal attitudes, with plans to allow public sex as part of this summer's new rules of conduct for the country's best-known park.

"Why should we try to impose something that is actually impossible to impose, which also causes little bother for others and for a certain group actually means much pleasure?", he said.

But not everyone is impressed ...

But Amsterdam's dog owners are less impressed. The new park code of conduct will set out stiff fines for dogs that are allowed to run around the Vondelpark off the leash.

"Research showed that many people find this disturbing," said Mr van Grieken.

One dog owner protested: "As long as the park has existed, we've been allowed to let our dogs run freely. It's outrageous that we will be punished from now on but public sex won't. If they can drop their trousers, why can't I let my dog loose?"

Though, I find the headline of the article pretty dumb. They plan to legalise sex, not gay sex specifically.

Apparently, a fair number of people think that parks are a good place to have sexual encounters. There have been several occasions when I was hiking in a county or state park and encountered people who were ... au naturel. One of my Field Ecology professors used to joke with us about the appropriate way to handle the surprisingly-frequent encounters one is likely to have with "Rosy-Bottomed Skinny Dippers" when doing field work.

Yeah...I would have thought that would have been obvious before this dog owner said that. I mean, it's not like somebodies butt crack is going to jump up and inflict bodily harm.

Sometimes I wonder if dog owners don't have any brains. At least, there are way too many dog owners out there who shouldn't be.

I don't understand why the dogs need to be on leashes though, because at the same time they are making sex with animals illegal here (no, it wasn't before). So it is not as if it would now be legal to have sex with the dogs in the park.

I get the impression that the Nederlanders aren't opening all public parks in the country to open sex. Is that right?

Are there other parks where sex will still be illegal and it's still allowed to have your dog attack a small child?

It always was illegal to have sex with animals if harm was done to the animal. But now they are banning it because it is 'immodest', which I think is about the worst reason you can think of. You can ban pretty much any sex act for that reason, up to and including heterosexual sex in the missionary position (which I personally think is disgusting).

Especially with the opposite sex, when they will then scream blue murder at the 'prejudice' of expecting them to accept persons of a different body shape as human beings fit to share sexual pleasure with. There has always been prejudice against letting the sexes together - how many parents worry when young teenagers of the opposite sex go quiet alone together but don't give a damn when they are of the same sex? We have a long way to go yet to make heterosexual equality as acceptable as homosexual emotions.

I'm immensely annoyed that the dogs will have to be leashed. I hope they will have an alternative and worthy park close by where the dogs can have a good run off the leash!

Personally, I don't give a shit about the people - they have enough bloody "rights" - but I do care about the dogs.
